I'd really like to say something witty and disparaging
about these people, but all I can think of is "How can you f*cking assholes sleep at night knowing there are children going hungry because of you?"
I suppose they had some sort of rationale to explain their votes, but I don't even want to hear it. What they have done is inexcusable.
I notice
some "Liberal" heroes in that list.
Lookin' at you, Al Franken--
Is there some jujitsu move these Dems were workingo on?
Or just the one where they put out their hands for donations?
Kohl? WTF did he have to lose by voting to kill those cuts?
Senator Stab-in-the-back (Stabenow), D, MI
Who is Chairwoman of the "Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry" (This Committee has jurisdiction over agriculture programs, nutrition programs, and rural development), was MORE concerned about profits for insurance companies than hungry kids. From HuffPo :
"Gillibrand had hoped to prevent food aid cuts in the $969 billion bill by trimming the guaranteed profit for crop insurance companies from 14 to 12 percent and by lowering payments for crop insurers from $1.3 billion to $825 million."
But Stabby tried to make it about (hahahehechoke) "accountability":
"Here's what's going on: In a handful of states, they found a way to increase the SNAP benefits for people in their states by sending $1 checks in heating assistance to everyone who gets food assistance," said Stabenow. She allowed that heating costs are properly a factor in determining the need for aid, but said that states like New York and Massachusetts are going too far.
"Sending out $1 checks to everyone isn't the intent of Congress," Stabenow said. "For the small number of states that are doing that, it is undermining the integrity of the program in my judgment. This is about accountability and integrity."
It's bad enough that states are being starved of funds, and thus their children are starving too, but the hypocrisy is just sickening.
Regional politics
This is particular vote is purely regional politics fighting over the scraps left behind by the bigger picture issue which is that no matter what happens here, there will be less food stamp aid overall, despite a forecast growing need due to the ensuing next recession.
Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
It's the game
They take turns being villains. It was their turn.
With this particular list, there has to be something.
This is not your typical list of Dems - Klobuchar, Franken, Harkin, Hagan, Pryor. Perhaps is there some poison pill in this bill?
crops subsidies
it was paid for by cutting crop subsidies, so farm state senators voted against it.
As long as
Both parties continue to buy into the mantra of "austerity" and of "cutting the budget deficit" this sort of thing will continue to happen.
The administration and the Congress should be increasing the budget deficits and not decreasing them. That is the only way out of this current economic mess!
