50% say they ’strongly disapprove’ of Bush, and the Beltway Dems keep caving and capitulating

Gallup, via USA Today:

Meanwhile, Bush reached an unwelcome [Oh? To whom] record. By 64%-31%, Americans disapprove of the job he is doing. For the first time in the history of the Gallup Poll, 50% say they “strongly disapprove” of the president. Richard Nixon had reached the previous high, 48%, just before an impeachment inquiry was launched in 1974.

Of course, during the Nixon era, people had some outlet, because the Democrats held Nixon accountable for his crimes, instead of caving and capitulating and granting him and his retroactive immunity. Yeah, Ford pardoned Nixon, but with the Beltway Dems, Bush’s pardon is pre-approved!

Harry, Nancy, nice work. I knew you could do it. I’m proud of you. Stand tall. You know what I’d do, if I were you?

I’d write Bush another sternly worded letter. That’ll show him.

Sternly worded letters deemed too uncivil, divisive

By Tetley Lipton Associated Press Writer

Nov 6th, 2007 | WASHINGTON, DC. — Harry Reid (D-NV) and Nancy Pelosi(D-CA), Democrat leaders of their respective pox-ey houses, abandoned their plans to issue sternly worded letters and instead resorted to a parliamentary maneuver called “tea-bagging.”

Though employed regularly by Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Norm Coleman (R-MN), it is rarely used by members of the majority party. Nonetheless, they felt its application might stem the chorus of three ultra-right-wing radio commentators who had threatened to call them “partisan.”

Authoritarianists laugh at 50% strong disapproval

(via uggabugga) They’re just getting started:

These people weren’t necessarily religious, social, or cultural conservatives. They were political conservatives. Or, to use John Dean’s characterization, “authoritarians”. Interestingly, they consider themselves patriots, even though they are woefully ignorant of the founding principles of this country (Habeas corpus, restraining executive aggrandizement during war). They are tough political opponents. They’ll use propaganda, character assassination, the power of the state (when they have it) to harass opponents, and try to steal elections. Because they are authoritarians. Power is all that matters, not persuasion or compromise. They don’t care about public approval except to the extent that it’s necessary to win elections, and then it’s mostly obfuscation and rarely-honored promises to a core subset such as the religious right. They love the Senate and Electoral College because it makes it easier to attain power without majority approval (2000 Presidential vote).

The Democrats we are hating these days don’t get this because they are authoritarians, too. Deal with it.

Corrected yer typo

They don’t care about public approval except to the extent that it’s necessary to win elections, and then it’s mostly obfuscation and rarely-honored promises to a core subset such as the religious right progressives/liberals.
