Apropos
I thought that this song is perfect for a large number of situations, the 50/50 proposal included.

Question
Aren’t we all Americans by choice (check first username on rec list)? Is there some new Bush doctrine I don’t know about? That being said I can see Carter endorsing Obama since he has gushed over the “hope” and “unity” narrative. Still, I doubt Carter will do it.
Speaking of endorsements it seems Obama has a new polarizing figure (to Middle America) to add to his collection, as if Ted Kennedy and Jeremiah Wright weren’t enough: Jane Fonda. Can you imagine the ads? A picture of Hanoi Jane and Obama on one side with a photo of POW McCain on the other. Isn’t Obama the candidate whose sole basis for the nomination is that he will appeal to Republicans and Independents—expand the map?
He has totally set up his blank slate of a candidacy to become a gross caricature: an elitist whose out of touch with the common man and holds working class voters in contempt (cue Obama partly blaming his absurdly low bowling score on a 10 year-old kid); ultra-liberal hypocrite (Teddy “Chappaquiddick” Kennedy); corrupt (Rezco); member of the Blame America First crowd (Wright); and, lastly, Enemy of America (Rezco/Auchi, Ayers, and Hanoi Jane).
Kos is dead
Many religions inspired a tradition that if a child of a family X marries someone from religion Y, the parents X declare the child dead and treat her/him as non existent.
Kos used to be a liberal Democrat; now wedded to Obama he joined a fascist religious sect of hateful and race baiting religion.
I hereby declare Kos dead as a Democrat and it’s absolutely scandalous to even mention his name.
Did you play the record backwards?
[Obscure boomer reference]
Seriously, what’s losing 400K hits to a site like that? Not much. I’m sure Kos’s decision to go with Obama makes good business sense, and probably that’s what drove his choices, rather than any real form of political commitment. Ah, first mover advantage…

OMG meaning....
… there are some people they didn’t manage to purge? Good for them. And if our pushback got the DK people to stop what they were doing, so much the better. As Atrios says, the only way to affect these people is to cause them pain….

Kerry
No, OMG to the idea that winning the primary is prima facie evidence of ability to win the election. In US politics, that is wrong at LEAST 50% of the time.
Koshembos, Kos is a Johnny-Come-Lately
to the Democratic Party. By his own admission he was a Republican with strong libertarian leanings before starting his site. He has never been a liberal Democrat.
Hey, Kos is a businessman
His traffic is, over the year, great, and he’s got a youthful demographic, which is no doubt why he went with Obama even though he’s not a progressive, he’s selling books, and he’s on the teebee.
His small business is doing great, kudos to him.
Just let’s not confuse what Kos is doing with any form of commitment, political or otherwise, except to Kos, or confuse what’s good for us with what’s good for Kos and his business.

Dial it down a notch
I think some of the attacks in these comments are a bit over the top.
What Voodoo Chile Said
Particularly the comments of Davidson and Koshembos.
Davidson,
Are you really unaware that similar lists could be constructed around the notion of Hillary Clinton’s electability?
Senator Kennedy? It’s bad for Obama that he was endorsed by Senator Kennedy? Probably the most consistently liberal/progressive Senator we have?
And please, fascist cult, Koshembos?
These comments are so over the top to suggest to me that both of you may be secret Obama supporters, or even Republicans, who want to injure Clinton by the extremity of your response to Obama. No, not really, but that I can imagine it says something.
Lambert, a strong argument can be made that neither Hillary nor Obama are true progressives or true liberals. Both such arguments would be false, in my view, though not totally false. Neither one of them is campaigning on issues important to all of us, especially the ones about the unconstitutional behavior of the present administration and the need for some sort of accountability.
These are two good candidates - both of whom have articulated positions we haven’t heard much about for a long time, from Democratic candidates. Their support among voters is very close - Obama has a fairly clear lead, but it isn’t a big one, by any means. Why are you, and too many people who are commenting here, going out of your way to alienate the other half of Democratic voters? Yes, the same question can be asked of Obama supporters, but I’m always suspicious of people at the ready with questions about their opponents integrity, but indifferent to the need to ask themselves about their own integrity, which is something we, being human, all need to do, all the time.
All that said, let me be clear,Davidson and Koshembos, are still welcome here as commentators by me as much as by the other Corrente Fellows.
It's what Atrios said....
… There’s only one way to make members of our political class change (especially if you don’t have any money): Inflict pain. The message seems to be getting through, though only partially. As with WaPo, so with Kos. The principle is exactly the same. The Kos site, with the cooperation of sysadmins, made life unbearable for supporters of [not Obama]. There are consequences to that, exactly as there were for Lil Debbie, for example, and posts like this are one of them. If there’s not pushback now, what next?

What? How? I never said Clinton doesn’t have similar associations; I specifically highlighted that the key difference is that Obama is a blank canvas. He’s also heavily dependent on the media worship. This makes him extremely vulnerable to becoming a walking caricature. With Clinton, she’s a known quantity. We already know many people think she did everything from murder Vince Foster to plot for global domination as a toddler, and yet she remains strong—even in the GE against McCain (Obama currently is tied with McCain in MA according to SUSA). She does well in spite of the all-out assault because people have largely already made up their minds about her and because of her perceived strength on the economy.
And on Senator Kennedy, I specifically said he was polarizing to Middle America (Hence, the “Chappaquiddick” line, for one). This is all about perception. Obama’s entire argument for being a stronger GE candidate is that, unlike Clinton, he’s well received by Middle America, Independents, and even Republicans so much so he can get their votes in large enough numbers to expand the map. So far he has not done well with (white) working class voters and since he’s a blank canvas, these close associations with people who are considered polarizing by these voters will hurt him (Kennedy didn’t simply endorse him, he campaigned heavily with him and, more importantly, essentially welcomed him into his family). Close ties with the likes of Wright sets him up to be sliced and diced when someone like Jane Fonda endorses him. This is especially true since he doesn’t have a whole lot of substance or experience to back him up. All he has right now is basically personality and character.
Re: Kos is a businessman
back in February over at TalkLeft some people linked to comments by Kos in some diary where he was talking about his ad revenue being down. I don’t think he understands why ad revenue is down when his hits are up.
