A Conversation About Race

MSNBC* has some footage up of a panel discussion about race. Without judging the relative merits of those who share their views, I was struck by two things: one, we’re still fucking up the children who so many of us say must be cherished, and two, the negative issues of race and ethnicity will not vanish without a whole lot of work. Perhaps they never will, but that is no excuse to not address these issues and attempt to build a better world “for the children.”

Watched this along with the documentary

which can be seen in segments starting here.

It is a little melodramatic, with emphasis too often placed on areas that don’t actually matter, but in the end there is a quet dignity that emerges for all concerned and a sense of hope that although we haven’t yet gotten to the Promised Land we can, on the horizon, see that it is something we can reach.

I recommend watching both the documentary and the panel discussion; they are each made better when seen as a whole.
