A Day of Peace in Griffith Park

MJS's picture

Jane Goodall was in Griffith Park to speak about Roots & Shoots (an organization she founded) and A Day of Peace. Her quiet but resolute passion combined with her gentle beauty and dignity all worked together as she spoke of committing to Peace, of turning shrapnel and bullet casings into artful bells (literally), and of all the ways that good, decent people can face a world of violence and remain unvanquished.

The Day of Peace celebration was held in Griffith Park on Saturday, September 30th--it was held in thousands of other venues on September 21st...

Chauncy expressed an interest in seeing Jane Goodall and insisted upon driving

Colorful banners greeted us as we arrived

A parade of giant doves circled the grassy area below the Merry-Go-Round

The sheets billowed as volunteers carried the giant birds about the circle

Jane looks at one of the giant doves

The stage was set...

A goodly sized crowd was ready to listen

Jane spoke at length about the Day of Peace and about what can be done to give aid and succor to a world battered by war and violence

After Jane spoke a local band swung into action

A pensive moment, then autographs and discussions...

Jane Goodall kisses Chauncy, who rather likes Jane as well

Jane Goodall does not kiss and tell, but Chauncy is considering telling the lads back home about his latest conquest...

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
