A freed man? Not quite yet...

Tom Friedman tries to get in on the Class of 2007 paper chase:

9/11 has made us stupid. I honor, and weep for, all those murdered on that day. But our reaction to 9/11 — mine included — has knocked America completely out of balance, and it is time to get things right again.

But a little remedial work remains:

I’d love to see us salvage something decent in Iraq that might help tilt the Middle East onto a more progressive pathway. That was and is necessary to improve our security. But sometimes the necessary is impossible — and we just can’t keep chasing that rainbow this way.

Tom, you had me until "was and is necessary."

Don't pull sleight-of-hand when you're trying to come clean. Don't be slippery with whether your meaning is that a more progressive Middle East was necessary, or that the war was necessary. Because that's the difference between an "A" for effort and an "F.U."

"a little remedial work..."

Isn't that precious?

We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan

it's Classic Troll. "I'm with you crazies. And us crazies need to do what is unpopular amongst Our types."

Being right on the war gives us DFH's a whole new element needing to hop on the train. It left, but they're still buying tickes. Ruth

Did something get deleted?

Did something get deleted? Isn't what "precious" and "classic troll?"

I hate this prick. I have suggested over at Atrios that Friedman be awarded a permanent wanker status, something like wanker emeritus, several times.

The last I saw him on Charlie Rose he was saying how he had warned repeatedly that the great undertaking of remaking the Middle East would not be easy.

Alls I remember is his imitations of an orgasmatron every time he talked about the war.

No, nothing deleted

"A little remedial work." Now that's precious.

Although "Suck. On. This." is also precious.

It's hard to choose between them for preciousness, actually.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
