ACLU Video and Petition to AG Eric Holder

I get email from the ACLU, which I've donated membership fees to and wait my card to carry from. :) But this is a serious matter, and I'm asking y'all to join me in sending this video to the Attorney General along with a letter asking him to appoint a special prosecutor to look into the torture of POWs under the Bush regime.

My somewhat personalized version of the letter's over the jump:

Honorable Eric Holder, Esq.
Attorney General, United States of America

U.S. Department of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20530-0001

7 August 2009

Dear Sir:

I'm joining a group of my fellow citizens asking you not just to watch this video but share it with the President.

Please watch this video from the ACLU:

Recently a variety of sources have reported your consideration of whether or not to appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate the torture of POWs in American custody, whether by GIs, agents of some other government department(s), or "independent contractors" such as employees of the former Blackwater Corporation (now Xe). Please consider the consequences to the United States not just in the eyes of the world but in terms of the threat to our citizens and servicemembers, armed and diplomatic as well as humanitarians, should we refuse to investigate, indict, prosecute, and upon conviction, punish those responsible for the creation, maintenance and operation of facilities where POWs were tortured, including but not limited to Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib, during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I am writing to say that the time has come for a full and comprehensive investigation into Bush administration torture policies. I am respectfully requesting that you appoint an independent prosecutor with the authority to follow the evidence of torture wherever it leads and to investigate anyone who authorized these heinous acts.

Please help restore the rule of law.

Thank you for your time.

Respectfully,
The Other Sarah
