Action Alert: Make a Phone Call for the Constitution

chicago dyke's picture

After reading Lambert's Most Excellent Roundup of what matters and why re: the Abu G song and dance coming from the White House, I checked in with the House and Senate Judiciary Committees. They are doing what needs to be done, but today is critical- the House meets to decide about issuing subpoenas, and the Senate will meet on Friday in an executive meeting, probably also to talk about what to do with the information they learn today from the IG about misuses of the Patriot Act powers by the FBI. So make some phone calls, and use words like "constitutional crisis" and "spine" and "I support your efforts and want you to go farther:

balance of powers

The most important item of business for the congress in the remainder of the reign of George W. "the Emperor" Bush is to restore the traditional balance of power between the legislative and the executive branches of our government. The consequences of our having allowed the President to rule without checks is now glaringly apparent. The legislature must assert itself and recover the powers it has abdicated; the power to declare (and un-declare) war, the power to control financial affairs of the government, the power investigate executive usurpations, corruption and misdeeds, etc.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
