An Arrest to Note

I’ve mentioned before my friend in TX who is a business owner; many times we’ve had conversations about how difficult it can be to do business if you’re not “in” with the right people (fundies). So I read this and also a comment from here and I got to thinking.

On Saturday, June 3, the Austin American-Statesman reported that armed federal agents entered the bakery at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 1 and arrested 5 kitchen workers, 4 of whom were summarily deported to Mexico.

The bakery’s owner said that all of the arrested workers, who range in age from 28 to 59, have children and have been long-term employees - 10 years, in one case. “These people paid taxes. They worked like crazy,” the owner said.

But is there more here? You make the call, this is unverified:

I worked at TFB for years and know the owners to be progressive, decent and democratic. That’s probably why they were raided…

I think this is what we’ll see in the future. Arrests for liberals and progressives and others caught breaking ridiculous laws while their counterparts are allowed to do business using the same practices.
