An unsustainable situation
Since the election there have been two conversations in this country. The first is amongst the people, characterized by the Walmart Black Friday actions, McStrike in New York City, and now the most recent solidarity uprising in Michigan.
Then there is the discussion amongst the Very Serious People in Versailles, people like John Chait and Ed Kilgore about the compromise where seniors give up two years of health care and banksters give up one of their yachts. Or Nicholas Kristof saying not so much let them eat cake as let them enlist. Or Gwen Ifil sweetly insisting that the poor must give up something.
The 99% and the 1% are talking past each other. There is no connection. I don't know what happens next, except that this is obviously unsustainable.
