You thought maybe the “War On Women” was too strong a term to apply to people who would ever so much rather, would downright insist on, being called by a warm and fuzzy term like “pro-life”? Um, no. It isn’t. Or we would never see a story like this. From this morning’s Richmond VA Times-Dispatch:

A Suffolk woman who lost her unborn baby after suffering a bullet wound to the abdomen was arrested yesterday and charged with shooting herself to “illegally induce an abortion.”

Oh, but they were ever so kind! Ever so merciful!

Authorities studied several possible charges against Skinner but decided not to charge her with murder because the fetus had not been born, George said.

That was the extent of the mercy though. She is still facing a nice satisfying list of felony charges, the leading one of which is

She is charged with illegally inducing an abortion, a Class 4 felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Is the point here that we on the Pro Born People side of the “argument” think that it’s all cool and wonderful to end a pregnancy by shooting yourself in the stomach? Well, just to make things absolutely clear to the weak-minded Fetus Fetishizers, no we do not. We just think that the first thing that should be considered in such cases is the likelihood that somebody who shoots themselves in the stomach to end a pregnancy is maybe more in need of mental health treatment than a stint in the lockup and felony charges, m’kay?

But instead…

Skinner also is charged with using a firearm in commission of a felony, along with a misdemeanor count of filing a false police report.

She remained in jail yesterday after failing to post a $15,000 bond, George said.

Wonderful use of criminal-justice-system resources there Richmondites. Way to go. I’m sure everybody else feels so much safer now.

Oh, and your argument that “these laws criminalizing abortion are just aimed at the doctors, not the Poor Misguided Headed-Straight-For-Hell women, oh we mean MOTHERS, who are too weak-minded to be allowed to make their own decisions on these matters so we must decide for them, has just taken a bit of a hit here too. Better start building those extra new jails now just to be ready.
