If you have "no place to go," come here!

Andy Sullivan at my school tonight

tom's picture

Well Andrew Sullivan will be speaking at my school in less than an hour. I met him this afternoon and he did a nice job talking with our students.

Here's a link to the press release from my school about the appearance.

I'll let you know how it goes. I'm trying to decide what question I'll ask him during Q & A. Any suggestions you have in the next 15 minutes or so would be appreciated.

What is your plan to restore Constitutional government?

We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan

Sullivan, after all, is from the class of 2004. Reasonably respectable, or at least not insane. It would be interesting to hear what he has to say.

what the fuck gives you, HIV+ bareback (no condom) one night stand advertising gay man that you are, the right to tell anyone, let alone people in a country not your own, what is "right" and "good?"

for those who haven't heard, andy was busted posting on a gay sex site looking for partners who wanted to fuck without condoms. not mentioning that he was HIV+. he's a reprobate of the first order, as well as a warmonger (oh, so you're sorry now, that's so great, whatever).

~1M iraqis are likely dead at this point, and there is no end in sight. no one who advocated for the war is without blood on their hands.

or rather, in his case, Blood, Shit and Cum on His Hands.

And as for the war... Class of 2004 is a lot better than many, many others. I still want to hear what he has to say. Maybe it will serve as a useful corrective!

i'd missed that. and how recently? um, i lived in DC as recently as for part of this year, when i read an interview with him...in one of DC's better gay publications. no mention of his Better (bearded) Half in that piece. plenty about life as a gay republican, tho.

Now, I don't have the DC perspective, so maybe I'm not being sufficiently cynical enough.

See his blog at the Atlantic, which, although it doesn't have comments, in typical winger fashion (Matt's does, of course), often has interesting stuff.

I'll write something up tomorrow. We didn't have long for Q & A so I didn't get to ask anything. The students were rather rudely restless and clearly didn't want to listen to Q & A for longer than 10 minutes or so. Unfortunately that meant the Q & A wasn't very long. Andy's answers during Q & A were a bit long too.

I will say this: Andy is now far off the Republican reservation. Andy can be very good when he works hard at it. I actually liked his talk even if I didn't agree with a few of the central tenets of it.
