Army "Takes Blame" For Walter Reed Being A Dump

The Army’s vice chief of staff today said a “breakdown in leadership” is responsible for the widespread administrative problems faced by some wounded war veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

Meanwhile, the military’s top civilian health official said that while he was “surprised” to learn of the problems, he and other leaders are aggressively seeking solutions.

The problems at Walter Reed “are serious matters,” said Dr. William Winkenwerder Jr., assistant secretary of defense for health affairs, during a Wednesday press conference at the Pentagon. “They deserve immediate attention, and they’re getting immediate attention.”

They are taking the blame and responsibility in the Bush administration style, by not being accountable. Do you think any heads will roll? Hell no. Gee, we didn't notice the holes in the walls, and the moldy peeling wallpaper. Our bad. You got us there. This will never happen again, because this time we are taking extra special care.

Give me a fucking break. They ought to just pin the medal of freedom on the assholes in charge of Walter Reed and call it a day. I have these visions of James Webb charging the White House with a claymore mine, a pair of handcuffs, a pen, and a bill from congress to fully fund the VA system and quit dicking around with veterans to fund tax breaks for wealthy donors.

My other suggestion is that we should get some of those yellow ribbon SUV magnets to cover up the unseemly holes in the place wounded veterans come to recover. It would hide the problem and let the troops know we care enough to spend $3.00 at the 7-11 just thinking about them, before we settle in for American Idol.

Leadership Failure...

Yeah.

I've been railing about this for over two years.

It IS a Leadership Failure-- A TOP--> Down Leadership Failure.

George, Dick and Rummy-- to the carpet, front and center, and GUILTY of criminal negligence. That's where we are, already.

The Final Solution

Trifecta, I have seen that the reason we have so many injured is that advances in medical science have saved a lot of injured soldiers who otherwise wouldn't have made it. This makes me suspect that the Darths of the maladministration can solve their problem at Walter Reed. Cut back on medical units in Iraq.

Medical advances

The kill to wounded ratio has been dropped dramatically. One of the reasons only 3000+ soldiers have died is because of it. With Vietnam era medicine, we would be over 5,000 now.

Of course the body armor mainly is for vital organs only, that is why so many people come back alive, but missing limbs. Those shrapnel wounds that rip arms off would have been fatal a generation ago in many cases.
