At long last... no sense of decency

Read Bob Geiger on Kerry vs. Sam Fox, the Swift-Boat bankroller who's nominated to be Ambassador to Belgium.

Kerry: Why would you give $50,000 to a group you have no sense of accountability for?

Fox: Well, because if 527s were banned, then it's banned for both parties. And so long as they’re not banned...

Kerry: So two wrongs make a right?

Fox: Well, I don’t know, but if one side is contributing then the other side...

Kerry: But is that your judgment? Is that your judgment that you would bring to the ambassadorship? That two wrongs make a right?

Fox: No, I didn’t say that two wrongs make a right, sir.

Kerry: Why would you do it then?

Fox: Well, I did it because politically, it's necessary if the other side is doing it.

After paying thugs to ambush him (and our whole country), Fox has the temerity to call Kerry a "hero." Kerry resists calling Fox a "weasel," but I'd say he made the point pretty well.

Trying to make a Republican feel shame

What a truly quixotic endeavor.

As I'm fond of saying...

Sam Fox is a weasel

Asked why he nominated Fox, who Bush does not know personally, the president replied 'someone must have asked me to nominate him.'

The old boy network on display

"Someone" asked Fox to donate 50K to an ambush group, and he writes a check.

"Someone" asked Bush to make Fox an ambassador, and he nominates him.

Welcome to the "Brotherhood of the Bell."

Sorry, "the President"?

Oh, you mean Bush!

Usage, Dr. X., usage!

Fox a hero, Kerry a Zero

If Kerrys wife and others can give money to move on . org why can't Fox give money to swift boat? We all have groups we would give to, if its wrong for one side then it needs to be wrong for all sides. If kerry is going to still cry about his loss and blame others for it maybe he should think about leaving. Mr. Fox did nothing wrong, bad or other wise, why should he be sorry. Kerry is just out for revenge. what a poor losser.

Calling them 'Lossers' is the new way of supporting the troops?

As you may recall, Kerry got purple hearts 'n stuff, the sort of thing the wingers are hepped up about for the present war - and it sure seems low class to try and throw poo at him as the swift boaters did. The stuff GOP ambassadors are made of may be this low, but when we can see it plainly, it's the duty of a Senator to keep them from being appointed and doing any more damage to the U.S. than this group of thugs has already done.

I guess that double standard stuff applies here, hmmm, FTLC?

Dear From The Left Coast

The issue isn't the fact that he gave money to a group; he gave money to a group that was organized to tell lies about Kerry. If you still believe the nonsenses spewed forth by the Swift Boaters, you haven't been paying attention to the many critiques of what they had to say, in book and in interview and in paid advertisement form.

If you have any interest in the truth about this sorry episode, you might want to Goggle Daily Howler and Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, or Eriposte and the same.

Sam Fox came before Kerry and tried to tell the Senator that Fox didn't actually believe what the Swiftboaters said and tried to excuse his own funding of same by claiming he didn't realize they would do what they did. Now tell me, does that sound like Ambassador material, even by the light standards of competence generally used to judge such appointments.

George Bush and the entire modern Republican apparatus have the distinction of being bad losers, and worse winners

Move-on is an entirely different kind of organization than the Swiftboaters. Yes, they put out a few ads, but they weren't personal attacks which turned on lies and distortions and smears. MoveOn's primary self-appointed task was a get-out-the-vote effort, as well as a fund-raising function. Move-on is about as American as it gets; grassroots, based on supporting certains political ideas, independent, and a community based grassroots effort. It gets its primary funding from its members in small donations, and because of its innovative use of internet technology is able to raise money for selected candidates on very short notice, but also in small donations.

BTW, did you know that MoveOn.org used it's grassroots membership to find immediate housing for families made homeless by Katrina? You can read about it and see the pictures of the host and guest families in the book 'It takes A Nation." You might want to take a look at their other book, Fifty Ways To Be A Patriot; none of them include having rich political supporters financing a carefully organized group of liars to deliberatly malign a political candidate who could never be in a position to sue them for the libel they were committing.
