Beginning tomorrow, I will boycott Air America Radio

I bought an XM radio the week that Al Franken's late, lamented show premiered on "America Left," which was XM's initial venue for most of Air America's programming.

Whenever I was in the car, I was glued to that station. Now, it's hard for me to remember why I rooted for them to survive Chapter 11.

At this point, it is all Hillary Hate, all the time.

I'm a fucking Democrat, goddamn it, and I have been my whole life.

Like just about half of the Democrats voting in the primaries, my preferred candidate is Hillary Clinton.

And when I turn on the Randi fucking Rhodes show, and she's playing "Witchy Woman" and cackling, yes cackling, about how "Witchy" is one letter off from what she really means, I am fucking done with your piece of shit network.

Well, now when Obama says, "I also think my party can be smug," at least for some elements of it I can heartily agree with him.

Just like the kewl kidz at MoveOn fucking dot org, almost all of the jocks on Air America have decided to cast a huge part of their constituency onto an ice floe, rather than respect the fact that two popular Dems are in this campaign.

I don't have my etiquette book handy, but I believe the proper response to "fuck you," is "fuck you" right back.

Tomorrow, when I get in the car, I will not only remove Air America from my presets, I will delete it from the stations that are available to browse through and listen to. As Barbara Bush once said to Mr. Franken, "I'm through with you!"

So Rhodes, McCain, and Barbara Bush....

... are all agreed on one thing, at least. Nice....

At this rate...

... this site and MyDD.com will be the only havens left safe from anti-Hillary treachery.

What accounts for it? This madness sweeping Kos, OpenLeft, Huffington Post... everywhere you look.

You think Obama is turning them into anti-Hillary zombies with some secret voodoo juice that Jeremiah Wright taught him to make?

It's only where the folks in charge aren't up to the level of performance which their accidental elevation to 'Big Man' in the 'sphere requires.

Sadly, the fate for such is not....

...a good one.

Oh, in some neighborhoods the following would be considered highly offensive, even racist:

You might want to hide your essential nature a little more carefully, eh?

I'm with you, vastleft

Even my beloved Sam Seder has become a bot. Rachel Maddow too, but she still claims to be "personally and professionally neutral." *snort* Yeah.

Well, at least Amy Goodman still reads us the news. I know she hates both of 'em, but she scarcely covers the campaign fratparty anyway, so it's a-ok with me.

My Canadian mediahhh is still pretty stunted in terms of podcasts. CBC.ca hosts a few, but they're pretty sparse.

The Goddess of Talk Radio

Randi Rhodes, that is, used to be my Queen.

She would help me get through my day with her screaming, especially when I wasn't dating anyone.

The other day I heard her say "I'm an opinion maker". That was telling.

I just don't listen anymore. It was the same thing after the 2006 elections, in early 2007, she would always prop up the Dem Pols.

When callers would complain about the Dems caving on the war, FISA, etc. she would totally shout them down "What part of they don't have the votes don't you understand!!" /Queens accent

Similar to the lefty blogosphere, Air America faces a conflict between the roles of Truthteller and Cheerleader.

Truth was all that was needed to fight the Bush administration. Just getting the truth out there was a serious form of opposition. Air America was and still is the only challenge to the vast right-wing radio medium.

But now that AAR jocks are conscious of having some influence, like some big time bloggers, they want to use that power to "make opinion" in order to produce a political outcome.

Randi, Big Ed Schultz have been persuaded that Obama is the only one that can beat McGrandpa. They chose sides against Hillary and are now, again like the bloggers, their techniques of relentless invective against her.

This cheerleading for one candidate will necessarily stray from the Truthteller role. It's like being an advocate for your cause, like a lawyer who must be prepared to defend anyone.

There's also the lure of the whole "access" thing which these up-and-coming jocks are not immune to.

I hear ya, VL. But when the pie fight is over I will give my queen another chance.

Fighting for Control of the Democratic Party

Here's an interesting post from Anglachel (http://anglachelg.blogspot.com/2008/03/b...) about the divides in the democratic party and how this election is a fight for who will control it. I don't agree with all of it, but it provides lots of food for thought.

What gets me is the low-caliber of the anti-Hillary talk

They're not making a case, not doing any analysis, just propelling one side's spin.

Every canard about the Clintons being racists who want to destroy the party is repeated like a mantra.

And then there are classy moves like calling a strong Democratic contender a "witch" and a "bitch."

With friends like these...

And Really Cool Maps

I forgot to include in my previous comment a link to this post - http://www.realclearpolitics.com/article... - which shows the geographic divisions of Hillary and Obama supporters, as opposed to the cultural divisions mentioned by Anglachel.

But more importantly, the post shows the geographic divisions, focusing on Hillary's strength in Appalachia, with really cool maps.

Damn that made me feel good!!

Two times today I felt good. That Rachel Maddow really went off the edge as well. What is it with these people? Best thing, not listening to AM radio anymore, not reading moron bloggers: Kos, TPM, etc. Ahh....

My favorite was always

My favorite was always Janeane Garofalo, by orders of magnitude.

For Rhandi Rhodes to be mocking another woman's voice for being annoying, well that's just pure fucking irony now, isn't it?

Good one, VC

If you really want the hosts to feel the pain, contact the local affiliate station with your displeasure. They are the ones taking a risk by airing AAR and they are the ones who get the ad revenue.

Maybe you can tell them you won't listen again until the primary fight is over. There goes X months worth of advertising.

Caveat: Bad as it may be right now, AAR needs to stay alive as a counterpart to right wing radio. Once the pie fight is over, you will be glad they are around. The left just has nothing else going to reach that demographic.

What Shystee Said

In his praise for vastleft and VC and in his caveat.

Same goes for NPR and PBS, which, BTW, while I'm on the topic, did anyone notice that Bush's new budget cuts funding for by 57%; for PBS, that is. It's unlikely to happen, but it say so much about Bush, including the fact that he would bother when he knows it will never make it past Democrats, but what is politics for if not for the fun one can having sticking your thumbs in the eyes of anyone who disagrees with you.

I think part of what has happened to Rachel Maddow is that she's become a regular on MSNBC; on the other hand, wouldn't we rather one of those chairs be filled by someone like Maddow instead of another Tucker Carlson? Still, her sense of comity with Matthews is unsettling.

After Al Franken left

I listened to AAR for one week, then gave up on it.

AirAmerica

I used to have a subscription to Sirius and listened to AAR quite often. I haven't gotten to listen much since they went to XM. I rented a car recently that had XM and was floored to hear the attacks against Democrats by that network. Crazy time we live in.
I heard that Randi Rhodes was bemoaning the fact that her listening audience has dwindled. Perhaps alienating half of the loyal Democrats has something to do with it.

I thought we were better......

...than the right wing noise machine. Remember distinctly thinking that we would never stoop to such low shilling. It's kind of scary--the power of 'get on the bandwagon' propaganda.

I have an entire list of sites that I won't listen to/watch now and it gets longer by the day. BTW, Lou Dobbs has been great on this the last two days-maybe it will become a new 'cause for him.

Strangely it feels like the Hillary supporters have become the new silent majority.

Air America - turned into Limbaugh clone months ago

I dropped AA a couple of months ago when, after random checks during a day out and about, I discovered it was Hate Hillary all day.

To make matters even worse, Rachel Madow finally got a permanent spot on MSNBC and then proved she was "just one of the boys" by joining in their Hillary Hate machine. (I don't watch MSNBC at all anymore. Well, actually, I've given up TV news completely.)

Yea, I know women can be just as dumb as men (there were women, after all, who opposed the Vote for Women for decades and were responsible for killing the ERA), but it still hurts.

Aww, but unfortately

(there were women, after all, who opposed the Vote for Women for decades and were responsible for killing the ERA)

There are many women who either buy into the BS that we are the weaker species, and need men to take care of us, or are perfectly willing to sell out their sisters, in turn for patriarchal approval. Which is why you will find many women(mostly young ones from my observations) who buy into the misogynistic Hillary Hatred. Many of them may even term themselves feminists. They just don't realize how their actions hurt women.

Sorry bout the O/T.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

i too gave up regular

i too gave up regular listening when al franken left, and haven't listened in months. it doesn't surprise me to hear today that randi rhodes called hillary and geraldine ferraro "fucking whores" today (not on the air... in some stage appearance somewhere).

ironic thing- i was hot when XM dropped MSNBC, but the way they're going with the hillary hate, it's no big loss to me now. i don't watch MSNBC on TV, either.

i guess i've been boycotting Air America and MSNBC and just didn't know it. let's make it formal.
