Democrats will have a new congress-person tomorrow, as Jackie Speier is sworn in to succeed Tom Lantos.
I yesterday’s special election, Speier attracted enough votes to avoid a runoff, and with the outright win she can be seated immediately.
With all the San Francisco precincts reporting and only a handful of precincts remaining to be counted in San Mateo County, Speier had captured more than 75 percent of the vote, far more than [the 50% + 1] she needed to avoid a June 3 runoff.
Speier is a solid progressive with an impressive legislative record focused on consumer protection, human rights and open government. She is not at all shy and while she prefers to be collaborative she will take to the press and television to get her views heard; we can all look forward to her making waves and shaking up the establishment routine.

I live in California
and get the SF Chron every morning, so I’m familiar with Jackie’s name.
Maybe she could replace DiFi the DINO
?

Yay, Jackie!
Glad to see she won and glad to see she avoided a run-off. I know I’m just asking to be disappointed, but I have very high hopes for her.
I heart Jackie
She should have been our Lt. Governor…
