If only Hitler got into art school. If only someone offered Castro a baseball contract. If only African-Americans voted for George W. Bush.
Robert Draper, author of the new, authorized Bush bio visited "Real Time with Bill Maher," and the host paraphrased a rather telling anecdote from the book:
After he won the Texas governorship, and he said to an aide, the blacks didn't come out for me like the Hispanics did, so they're not going to see much help from me.
In part, that may explain why someone who probably isn't a racist does such a good impression of one.
As to why Bush characterizes himself as "lonely," Maher has a worthy theory: "Could it just be that he's a surly douchebag?"
I don't have a video link for that interview, but here's Draper on The Daily Show:
Update: C&L has posted the "Real Time" video.

Something about Draper I like
He says "Bush," as opposed to "President Bush."
Which is the correct usage, since we should reserve the word "President" for Constitutional officers.
We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan

omg u (bush. and any1 else for that matter)can not say things like this!
gee what a suprise
gee what a suprise politicians reward people who vote for them.
Gee, what a surprise…
Gee, what a surprise... Republicans viciously punish anyone who won't get in line and know their place.
What a stupid, stupid man.
thank you, authoritarian, i mean anonymous coward
for summing up everything you people think about gov't. government, which is paid for by all people, is there to reward the loyalty supporters show their chosen politicians, while punishing those who did not show loyalty. only loyalists deserve social services, welfare and protection.
how very...monarchial. you people hate the constitution so much, it's rather telling.
George w. Bush
There is only one thing certain about Bush. That he's a genuine sociopath who cares little about people. Otherwise, how do you explain everything he's done: the Iraq war, tax cuts for rich, revamping the bankruptcy laws (now making it much more difficult for the average person to get out from underneath), and attempting to destroy social security, etc
And yes, he's got the charm when he needs it, but isn't that the hallmark of a sociopath? And just look at his record in Texas as governor. He presided over more state executions than any other governor before him. And when that female death death row inmate (Tammy Ray?) pleaded for her life, Bush was known to have sneered and snickered at the idea of commutting her sentence. And this for a woman who acknowledged her crime of murder as wrong and as well as expressing some remorse for her victim.
So again, this takes us back to Iraq, where his only motivation for continuing the war is to pass it on to the next president in hopes of saving his legacy. Otherwise, why the surge, if it hasn't lead to any real political solution? And now more American soldiers get to die for his legacy?
So ultimately, what do we have, when the president of the United States is more concerned about his legacy than the lives of American soldiers? I tell you what you have: a self absorbed, narcisstic individual who cares little about the lives of average Americans and more for himself. And that goes for any kind of people. Whether they be black or otherwise.
IMHO, you got that right T.G.
I would add that his sociopathy is primarily targeted at the lower economic classes and anyone he sees as "other." The idea that poor widdle Scooter Libby, for example, might see the inside of a jail cell was deeply disturbing to him, and he wanted to reward motherly Harriet with a nice black robe and a comfy chair.
