Obama took a different view on the issue when he was an Illinois legislator, voting at least three times in favor of temporarily lifting the state’s 5 percent sales tax on gasoline.

The tax holiday was finally approved during a special session in June of 2000, when Illinois motorists were furious that gas prices had just topped $2 a gallon in Chicago.

During one debate, he joked that he wanted signs on gas pumps in his district to say, “Senator Obama reduced your gasoline prices.”

“My view is that for pure comic relief, spoofing Tweety Matthews and Punchline KO Olbermann’s incredible spluttering outrage that Clinton refuses to drop out after winning Texas and Ohio is a sure fire comedy classic. But it will be hard to top the original performance. Funniest thing I have seen all year. They could even do Fineman as the Grim Reaper. It was hilarious”.
http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/3/5/1…

Olberman has fallen off the tracks with his utter hatred of Clinton..his rabid, anti-hillary rants and screeds make Twetty seem like a fawning, gushing admirer.
It gets pretty bad when a Kos diarist, yes, I said a Kos diarist, notices..

http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/2/14/1412…

“Keith Olbermann has finally pushed to Anti-Clinton, Pro-Obama bias too far. Tonight he was showing her new ad in Wisconsin and talking about how “there have already been too many debates”, etc. I just found the entire segment to really lack any journalistic discipline, as it was basically an anti-Clinton tirade. I’m so sorry about this too-as I used to LOVE Keith. He was my hero. Now I will have to stop Tivoing the show. That’s it- I’m done with MSNBC”

I must point out..that Kos is not a site friendly to Clinton by any stretch of the imagination.
But to his credit, he obviously doesn’t ban Hillalry supporters likie they do at the clownhouse known as DU.

This excellent blog has more details..
http://securingamerica.com/ccn/node/1485…

here are some tidbits..

“OLBERMANN: The Clinton camp’s intense desire to paint Obama as unfit to lead or unready at least, to command the mightiest military in human history consistently runs smack into the Obama rebuttal, that her experience and that of Republican rival, John McCain led to their participation in the worst American foreign policy mistake in decades if not centuries, a single Senate vote in 2002, authorizing the use of military force in Iraq.

Yesterday defending that vote, President Clinton not only referenced the fallacy that led to it, that Iraq was somehow tied to 9/11, in doing so, he also suggested, an experienced senator was tricked by an inexperienced just removed from Texas governor…

OLBERMANN: And just as the Clinton camp urged the media to focus on Obama’s foreign policy credentials, so too did the media do so today. The “Associated Press” and the conservative “Washington Times”, the latter paper headlining its piece: “Military Fears Unknown Quantity”, quoting only one fearful military by name, retired Air Force Lieutenant General Thomas McInerney, happens to be an analyst for the FOX News Channel. And unnamed war profiteer was also quoted and nobody else. Obama’s rebuttals are coming from his military backers, most of them veterans of the Clinton administration…

OLBERMANN: Which stage of grief or stages of grief will we see from Senator Clinton? And how does Senator Obama play in all this?…

OLBERMANN: Even in these final moments before the 20th Democratic debate, what is going on inside the campaign of Senator Clinton of New York? The apparent answer is, everything. We are told to stand by for a kitchen sink fusillade against Senator Obama. Then again, we’re also told of Senator Clinton’s senior advisers thinks she’s about to lock the nomination down. Dana Milbank of the “Washington Post” who heard that actually said out loud as we continue our countdown to the MSNBC Democratic debate in exactly 21 minutes and 30 seconds. That’s next…”

Keith Olbermann may have done a lot of good things in the past BUT in my opinion he is no longer credible and he has lost ALL of the respect that I once had for him. When I watch Olbermann right now, I monitor him for his personal bias just like how I do the same thing when I watch Bill O’Reilly on FOX News and when I listen to Rush Limbaugh and others like him on extreme right wing talk radio!

Can anyone find just one Countdown video link or transcript within the last week or so where Keith Olbermann had ANYTHING nice or positive to say about Hillary? If it exists, then please show it to me because I have not seen it yet and I watch Countdown every day. If I had a nickel for every compliment that Keith Olbermann has given to Obama and for every time that he has defended Obama either from Hillary or McCain within the last week or so, then I could probably retire right now!

Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and other openly biased pundits in the mainstream media just like them are NOT doing Democrats or the public any kind of a service by acting as apologists for Obama, by not asking the tough questions about obama that we all need to know BEFORE the nomination is decided, and by trying to give Obama a free ride to the Democratic nomination while trying to imply the Clinton campaign’s political obituary to their viewers. Shame on all of them!

If Keith Olbermann wants my support and confidence again, then he will definitely have to earn it by showing some true objectivity instead of his own personal bias when he talks about Democrats!

I know that this post may not be popular with some people here but those who know me know that I always call things how I honestly see them right down the middle no matter who it is even if it is not always popular. I completely stand behind everything that I have said in this post without any apology because it is what people definitely need to hear and be aware of right now in my opinion”!

“I don’t know if it is possible at this point. I’m sure many of us never expected Keith Olbermann to turn this way in becoming SHOCK TV. We thought of Keith Olbermann as a respected Commentator who seemed to care about reporting truth. An Edward Murrow of our time.

But he instead has become the waterboy for the Obama campaign. Or shall I call him their media hatchet? Now resorting to making up stories and coloring the facts and bringing on guests that were known to be a Gore basher during the Bush 2000 campaign, Richard Wolfe, proceding to “commentate” and LIE on the air”.

Much more at the link..well worth reading…

So, Barack, will you call Mr Olberman and implore for unity and fairness?
Will you point out to him that he is doing the RNC’s work for them, by endlessly trashing Clinton and providing ad copy for them, should she become the nominee?
Somehow, I don’t think Olberman is waiting by the phone.
I remember an MSNBC reporter saying that “the atmosphere was positivly electric..people were hanging from the rafters, and couldn’t wait to vote for “W”.
Gore’s campaign events were describes as sparsely attended, with a pervading sense of gloom and doom.
In 2008:
Obama’s events are described as “rock star” events, complete with traffic jams, adoring fans and a sense of euphoria. As an NBC reporter recently admitted..”It’s hard to stay neutral when covering this guy..thjere is just something about hin that sweeps you away”. (paraphrasing there)
Last night on MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell described the Hilalry events as “sparsely attended, and unenthusiastic” Howard Fineman droned on about a sense of gloom at Clinton headquarters, “there is no champain popping there..a sense of grim determination is evident”

In 2000:
During the recount, Bush and his crew declared victory early, saying Gore just didn’t have the numbers and assumed he was the elected President all through the recount.
Mobs of angry supporters and operatives stormed the recount places, demanding that Gore step aside for the good of the country so that we could rally around the President.
In 2008:
Obama is declaring that Hillary does not have the numbers to win. Mobs of angry Obama supporters descend all over the internet, (check out the clown house called Democratic Underground for all the proof you need in order to demonstrate how damaging to the mental process that unity can be), they bully people at caucas sites..demanding that Hilalry stand aside for the good of the party so that the Democrats can rally around a candidate.
Put aside the fact that neither Obama or Clinton can win the nomination without the Superdelagates, who were designed to be the precise independant group of decision makers that the Obama folks seem to deplore.

I hate re-runs..especially when I know how awful the movie ends..thank God Ohio, Texas, and Rhode Island provided a much needed intermission.

Other information: At my polling place there were TONS of Obama signs all over the place, not a single Clinton sign. As I mentioned, about 6 Obama people outside, not a single Clinton person. Inside the polling place, it looked like 2 of the 10 or so machines were off-line (a tech was there working on them), but there was no wait”.

Hillary Clinton tried to run as good a campaign as she could. She had the right, the media, the lefty blogs all against her. I can’t even watch keith Olberman any more..his outright contempt for Hillary Clinton is disturbing, to say the least.
I have seen the most vile and atrocious attacks against Hillary coming, not from the right, but from the so-called progressive left. Many female progressives have become little more than Ann Coulter wannabes, in their attacks against Hillary.
Lefty blogs eagerly embrace any and all right wing smear..a trip over to democrat Underground at any given time will provide thread after thread attacking Hillary that make Freerepublic look like a friendly camp.
In my short time there, I saw progressive Dems use Monica Lewinsky, Vince Foster, Travel Gate, Ken Starr, Juanita Broderick..all used with glee on a DEMOCRATIC site..against Hillary Clinton. The attacks against Chelsea..were enough to make Rush Limbaugh blush. Hillary has not many defenders over there at DU..they are quickly shouted down, then quickly banned for speaking against the Holy One.
If Hillary goes down, it will not be based on policy differences..but rather, on the distressing marriage of the progressives and the right wing.
As I said earlier..it is not that Hillary is defeated, if indeed she is, but it is the how of it..how they did it.
I won’t even list the slams that Hillary took based on her gender.
The question about which cause is more important to advance..race or gender..has been answered loudly and clearly. In this first historic year, when we had a woman, and an African-American running for the highest office in the land, the woman was trampled over easily so that the first black man could be elected President.
Before anyone labels me racist, spare the diatribe, my assumption is based on two facts:
1. With the Obama campaign running around intimidating Super delagates with the “you-don’t-want-to-be-seen-as-preventing-the-first-black-president-do-you” line ala Jessie Jackson Jr..race has indeed become an issue. (How come no one seems anxious about standing in the way of the first woman president)?
2. The glee..the absolute glee that some female Obama supporters eagerly trampled over Hillary to advance Obama. They make Maureen Dowd and Ann Coulter appear warm and fuzzy.
The “likeable enough, periodically blue” world that they have helped create is something they are going to have to live in for a long time after the saint is annoited and ascends to the presidency.
So..here I sit..a former democrat that will not vote in November if Obama is the nominee.
There are many like me.
I hope progressives are not too shocked when they wake up and see those Republicans and right wing attack dogs have turned against them.
Its the how of it…
It was nasty..
and it turned a lot of people away from the process.
The “screw you..we don’t need you”! attitude from some Obama supporters will come back to haunt them.

“From NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli
CANTON, OH — Robert Holeman came to Timken High School here today with a message to deliver to Bill Clinton. He did — and he said the former president wasn’t happy about it.

Clinton spoke to a capacity crowd in this Northeast Ohio town, the third of five events today in the Buckeye State. He told voters that the contest was “the power of speeches against the promise of solutions by a world-class change maker.”

Throughout the event, as Clinton made his case for his wife, Holeman’s dissenting voice could be heard. At times he simply shouted Obama’s name. When Clinton would set up a sure applause line, Holeman could be heard heckling. As soon as Clinton finished speaking, the Canton native made a beeline to the ropeline to give Clinton a piece of his mind.

“I asked the president to please stop the bickering between the campaigns,” Holeman said in an interview afterwards. “All this name calling is like the bully in the yard. He can’t get his way, he can’t get nothing done.” Holeman said he thought Clinton was “gasping for air.”

“This is the last hurrah. After March 4, Hillary Clinton will be out of the race for good, and Obama will take the commanding lead,” he said. “She should back him with her delegates immediately. That’s what I’m asking them to do.”

Holeman said that Clinton responded by saying Obama came after him first. Holeman also described Clinton’s reaction to him as “irate.”

“I think he even hit me in the face with his hand,” he said. “He did give me a little pop. It was okay, because I understand his tenacity for his wife.” Clinton did engage Holeman for a few minutes, at times pointing directly at him. It was unclear whether he did make physical contact, however.

Holeman said he did support Bill Clinton during his campaigns, but that now the country wants a “new perspective.” “I think the president’s trying hoodwink us, bamboozle us, put us back in the okie doke,” he said. “He had eight years to do what he was supposed to do. All the things he said that she’s gonna do, he had the same authority that he wants her to have. Now if one Clinton, the male Clinton can’t get it done, how is Ms. Clinton [going to].”

Several Clinton supporters who saw the exchange came up to Holeman after to — shall we say delicately — express their disapproval for his actions. More negativity, Holeman said. “Hillary Clinton has started the most negative campaign I have ever seen, other than what the Republicans can launch,” he said. “I think we need to come together on those issues.”

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2…

Drudge is highlighting this as “out of control Bill”

Lets see now..some jerk comes into a Clinton event, acts disruptive, interrupting, yelling, and generally making an ass out of himself. Then asks Bill to ask Hillary to “stop the name calling and bullying”?
Hard to say which is more amazing here..
the fact that this is typical of the Obama zealots..or that they are simply so lost in the clouds that they can not see that they are engaging in the same bullying tactics that they decry.
I can’t wait for the MSM to jump on the bandwagon and cover this as not some obnoxious, typical Obama supporter, but another example of Bill becoming unhinged and how he is hurting the campaign.
If this were a movie, I’d walk out..this is just too sad.
