The free market observed by Adam Smith had little resemblance to what is called the free market today. Additionally, capitalism as promoted by Smith is very different from what we call capitalism today.

Smith was a man of the 18th century, a time when humans in Europe were just beginning to use the tool of science to uncover the mysteries of nature and human behavior. His understanding of economics was akin to Newton's understanding of physics. Like Newton he brilliantly uncovered certain truths but he did not get everything right.

The Debt Limit can be BYPASSED!! (I. Rendered Unconstitutional, II. Have US Treasury produce 500 billion platinum coins (debt free) which can pay the entire debt, render the limit useless and then we can all put Republicans in a plane to China i.e., kick them in their rear!

In as much as I give credit to Ms. Rand for having survived the despotism of communism in Russia and the ill fated thinking that society is supreme to the individual, her work took her to the extreme of the opposit pole namely the "individual's supremacy over society" which ironically outlines a circle and cycle of despotic thinking: I rebel against all thought of the community's power over me and in doing so I then become the supreme entity over the community..which in turns leads to another form of despotism over and over again in a circular fashion. The individual issues are all too real: assaults on unions, public employees, women's rights, immigrants, the environment, health care, voting rights, food safety, pensions, prenatal care, science, public broadcasting, and on and on. Budget deficits are a ruse, as we've seen in Wisconsin, where the governor turned a surplus into a deficit by providing corporate tax breaks, and then used the deficit as a ploy to break the unions, not just in Wisconsin, but seeking to be the first domino in a nationwide conservative movement.
