Blogroll Amnesty Day 2012!

danps's picture

If you have your own blog, post your favorites and let us know! (History.) I’ve posted my 2012 entry here. Which lesser-trafficked blogs do you think deserve some link love? (B.A.D. usually spills across several days so don’t worry that the 3rd is passed.)

A few of the even smaller blogs that I read

For aggregation:

Sideshow. It's ridiculous that Avedon doesn't have ten times the readership. The Internet really does not support discovery all that well.

BLCKDGRD.

A few others:

The Power of Narrative.

Stop Me Before I Vote Again.

Jack Crow.

Also, I'd argue that of all the C list blogs, only Corrente has what amounts to a 24/7/365 day amnesty: First, under "Random Links" in the sidebar, we have a rotating blogroll that deliberately excludes the larger blogs you already know about. So I encourage you all, readers, to click through those links. Unlike the access bloggers, who by their nature sing in chorus, the smaller blogs cover all sorts of interesting topics, and the writing is generally of high quality (I try never to link to any other kind). Second, readers, if you have an account and post, your post is automatically front-paged. And cross-posting is encouraged. This can be a great way to build traffic for your own blog.)

Great stuff

Agreed on Avedon. She's simply one of the best. And you're right about not promoting discovery. I'm as guilty of that as anyone. I get in a rut and go to the same places, and your rotating "Random Links" is a great way to discover new sites.

We really do need to be reminded - often - of how important it is to promote smaller sites. That's where the truly independent voices are. BAD is a great way to do that.

By the internet....

... I meant the internet as a technical platform. I'm not saying you or me or any person. Frankly, I'd rather things that fewer people are linking to, but that's not how the search rank works.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
