Not 24 hours after the GAO reported dismal results in Iraq, this from the "Department of Look Over There" (via):
Three suspected Islamic terrorists from an al-Qaida-influenced group nursing "profound hatred of U.S. citizens" were arrested on suspicious of plotting imminent, massive bomb attacks on U.S. facilities in Germany, prosecutors said Wednesday.
How many times can they cry "wolf"?
Chancellor Angela Merkel said in an interview released Wednesday that German troops would remain in Afghanistan for several more years, despite recent setbacks in the region. "To walk away would send the wrong signal," Merkel told N-24 television.
Perhaps the Chancellor is owed another backrub from W. in advance of his "report" on Iraq?
Thanks for the assist...

How many times can they cry “wolf”?
As often as they need to.
The Terror, the Terror!
"sending signals"
that's what matters to our pols. even in germany. never mind blood, death, destruction, expeditures. our Priority is to Send the Right Signals.
how i hate them all, the warmongers.
Not all terror is 'faked'
Make no mistake, there are terrorists out there, there are people whose goal is to do just what these 3 are accused of.
Saying all captured 'terrorists' are fake because the bush faschisti pump up so many as terrorists, and hit the fear chord so often, would be ignoring what sov military doctrine called "the objective realities of the situation".
Dave
No, but all terror is used, and some is fake
These guys have a track record.
And isn't the timing appropriate? How helpful of the Germans to help Bush roll out a new product in September!
We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan

dave, that's the rub, innit? you just don't know anymore
and everything i've read or been told suggests that real terrorism is not only up, but efforts that combat it successfully are down. terrorism is a police problem, our boondoggle for the MIC catastrophic incompetence approach is exactly the wrong way to fight it, but that's the only thing we're spending money on. duck tape and color charts, wow, that makes me feel safe.
it's no fun to live in a time when your gov't lies, and the press uncritically repeats it. it makes being sure about things harder.
