Speaking of pinning the bogometer. Having royally fucked the Constitution by breaking the law (FISA) and then boasting about it, the administration promises it won't ever fuck the Consitution eve again, thereby passing (once again) the purity test of the God of Their Choice.
And avoiding impeachment.
IOKIYAR
! Break the law, then rewrite the law after the fact so what you did is retrospectively legalized, do pass Go, do collect $200! Honestly, what's not to like?
AP:
Senate Intelligence Chairman Pat Roberts said he has worked out an agreement with the White House to change U.S. law regarding the National Security Agency's warrantless surveillance program and provide more information about it to Congress.
When FISA itself had a 15-day grace period to do exactly that. Thanks, Senator Roberts. Thanks, Olympia Snowe. As the old Serbian proverb has it: "A fool throws a stone into the sea, and a thousand wise men can never find it." So much for the law. So much for the Constitution.
"We are trying to get some movement, and we have a clear indication of that movement," Roberts, R-Kan., said.
Without offering specifics, Roberts said the agreement with the White House provides "a fix" to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and offers more briefings to the Senate Intelligence Committee.
"Fix" meaning "fix so as to deep six the hearings, which clearly show Bush broke the law, and should, if the Republicans had any conscience at all, lead to Bush's impeachment.
The deal comes as the committee was set to have a meeting Thursday about whether to open an investigation into the hotly disputed program. Roberts indicated the deal may eliminate the need for such an inquiry. Democrats have been demanding an investigation but some Republicans don't want to tangle the panel in a testy [testy?!] election-year probe.
Nice to see the courage of those moderate Republicans melt away like a turd in a rainstorm. But we knew that was going to happen anyway, didn't we?
