Bringing Home Your Bacon

Autumn’s coming. Time to be thinking about what / how you want to put up your garden’s harvest (or the last bargains from the farmer’s market) against winter. Ideas?

Freezers are good.

Drying food (slow oven, Alton Brown’s box-fan and furnace-filter contraption, or your microwave are good options) works. Cuts down on the bulk and can be kept even if the power goes out (not a bad thing to prepare for. One of the things that put people at high-food-insecurity during the Depression was being thrown out of their homes, which meant having no access to food storage).

Home canning’s never a bad idea, if you can get jars/lids/bands.

Other suggestions? (Ristras *are* dried, thanks WGG)
