Bumper Sticker Follies: You Go Girl

Oh hell yeah. I hope she sues the pants of that department. Feh, and to think I was just talking with a friend about taking a vacation in Atlanta. None of my money will be going to Georgia any time soon, seeing as how I occasionally decorate my car with free speech indicators:

Atlanta, GA (AHN) - A nurse who got a $100 traffic ticket for having an obscene bumper sticker criticizing President Bush, filed a federal suit Monday against a Georgia county, according to an AP report.
In March, a Dekalb County police officer ticketed Denise Grier, 47, for driving a vehicle with a bumper sticker reading "I'm Tired Of All The BUSHIT." The officer issued the ticket under an old Georgia law barring lewd decals and stickers.
A Dekalb County court dismissed the ticket in April because the law was ruled unconstitutional in 1990.
In a suit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia, Grier is seeking unspecified damages against Dekalb County, its officials and the police officer who issued the ticket. She also seeks a declaration in federal court that the bumper sticker is constitutionally-protected free speech.
Grier's attorney, Frank Derrickson, told the AP, that the bumper sticker should be defended as a "type of sarcasm in relation to political figures," that is "as old as the country. We want to be assured that not just Ms. Grier but anyone who wants to have fun with the powers that be should be able to do that under the First Amendment."
The AP did not receive an immediate reply Monday to a phone message left at the office of Dekalb County CEO Vernon Jones.
Grier, who works as a nurse at hospitals in the Atlanta area, still has the anti-Bush sticker on her car, according to Derrickson.

My question is: so who told the cop that this law was still in force? Or is this a case of Republican selective law enforcement? I think those ridiculous "W" stickers are obscene, when is someone going to be arrested for still having one of those?

It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that the nurse was just one of several people harrassed over an anti-Bush sticker. And I bet a couple of them were arrested, having been singled out as traitors, I'm sure cops use their authority to search for forbidden things and find more excuses to arrest anti-Bush drivers.
