Bush's citizenship should be revoked until he learns how to speak English:
"I hear the voices, and I read the front page, and I know the speculation. But I'm the decider, and I decide what is best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."
Sadly, No! has the Dr. Seuss version. Oh yeah, and EJ Dionne is a tool:
Making Donald Rumsfeld the scapegoat for all that has gone wrong in Iraq is a way for other members of the administration to dodge responsibility for a misguided policy.
Thanks for putting the "scapegoat" GOP talking point (as regurgitated just last Sunday by George Allen) in your lede, EJ. Seems to me sometimes that "Liberals" inside the Beltway are only interested in things that will damage Bush's image as opposed to actual change.
Which is probably why the "opposition" party has not made a unified call for Rummy to step down. This would be calling for accountability and action. Perhaps his replacement would be less arrogant and less incompetent. Perhaps the lives of some Troops and Iraqi civilians could be saved.
But nooooo... For the Dems to ask Rummy to step off would actually benefit Bush, see? The Dems will just hang out on the sidelines and sit on their hands and watch things in Iraq get even more fucked up. The more people get slaughtered, the more irreversible the clusterfuck becomes, the better the Dems' electoral chances become. So crafty, so clever, I'm sure this strategy will work this time.
