You decide. Let's look at chapter and verse. Is there a message so high pitched that only Christianists will be able to hear it?
When I heard "the way forward," I was at once reminded of this famous quotation:
John 14:6 ("I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me")
(That's the verse that the Christianists use to claim that all children who were accidentally born to parents with the wrong religion are going to hell unless a Christianist missionary gets to them, no matter what kind of lives they lead. But let that pass.)
But there are many other usages of "the way":
Matthew 3:3, Mark 1:3, Luke 3:4, John 1:23 ("The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight'"); Matthew 7:14 ("the way is hard that leads to life"); Matthew 11:10, Mark 1:2, Luke 7:27 ("'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you'"); Matthew 21:32 ("For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him"); Luke 1:76 ("you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways"); Luke 1:79 ("guide our feet into the way of peace"); Luke 20:21 "(truly teach the way of God"); John 14:5 ("Thomas said to him... 'How can we know the way?'"); Acts 16:17 ("These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation"); Acts 18:25 ("He had been instructed in the way of the Lord"); Acts 18:26 ("They took him and explained to him the way of God more accurately"); Acts 19:9 ("But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way [capitals in original] before the congregation, he withdrew from them"); Acts 19:23 ("About that time there arose no little disturbance concerning the Way [capitals in original]"); Acts 22:4 ("I persecuted this Way [capitals in original]to the death, binding and delivering to prison both men and women"); Acts 24:14 ("But this I confess to you, that according to the Way [capitals in original], which they call a sect"); Acts 24:22 ("But Felix, having a rather accurate knowledge of the Way [capitals in original], put them off"); 2 Peter 2:2 ("And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed"); Revelations 16:12 ("The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east").
All in all, I think Bush's use of "the way" (forward) must be very evocative for any believer that knows their Bible. For example, those in The Base who can't undrink the KoolAid
Will Bush actually have the gall to present Himself as a Christ figure, suffering--even admitting mistakes--on behalf of His people? Tune at at 9:00PM EST to find out.
NOTE At least now we know why the only, literally the only, Iraq Studly Group recommendation that Inerrant Boy adopted was the title: "The Way Forward." Sigh. Thanks to this post by Glenn for inspiring me to look into this.
