Bush + Reid + Pelosi + Frank + Obama + McCain bailout still on life support [09/26/2008]

AP:

"I'm convinced that by Sunday we will have an agreement that people can understand on this bill," predicted Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank, a key Democrat in eight days of up-and-down talks designed to stave off an economic crisis.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi added that "progress is being made..."

"We're going to get this done, and stay in session as long as it takes to get it done," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Nice to see Reid and Pelosi acting with the same dispatch that brought us FISA [cough] reform, isn't it?

Aides to lawmakers in both parties say telephone calls from constituents are running heavily against the bailout — in some cases nearly 100-1 against, making the vote a potentially tricky one for a candidate in a competitive race.

Well, that's probably because the bailout hasn't been "explained" properly. RIght, Barney?

100-1 Against

and yet they are going to stay until they get this done. Because we do not matter to them anymore.

As for the "crisis", Arthur Silber poses an interesting hypothesis, are the credit markets really frozen or are they just playing possum, waiting on the bailout?

I am sorry

but how are you and any of us more important than conclusively (in their minds) proving that they did not need McCain's help?

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
