Bush to wounded troops: Hey, thanks a lot, now go die

lambert's picture

AP:

The Bush administration plans to cut funding for veterans' health care two years from now — even as badly wounded troops returning from Iraq could overwhelm the system.

Well, maybe we can give 'em a tax deduction. Or a voucher. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Bush is using the cuts, critics say, to help fulfill his pledge to balance the budget by 2012.

Really? Not this critic:

I'd say Bush is using the cuts to keep the tax cuts for the rich in place.

The proposed cuts are unrealistic in light of recent VA budget trends — its medical care budget has risen every year for two decades and 83 percent in the six years since Bush took office — sowing suspicion that the White House is simply making them up to make its long-term deficit figures look better.

"Simply making them up"? Oh, my goodness! Say it's not so!

As A Disabled Veteran...

I rely on the VA for my medical care. Just three weeks ago, I had a massive seizure, broke my shoulder and three ribs, and messed up my back.

Were it not for the VA, the Ambulance, and ER visit and tests would have had me staring at bankruptcy. During the Clinton years, the VA was FULLY funded, there were no waiting periods, I could call for an appointment, and get one for next week... Now, under George, I need to either wait up to 2 months, or go to the ER, or Acute Care Clinic, and wait ALL DAY.

I totally agree that his Tax-Cuts for the enormously wealthy are taking precedence over Disabled Veterans' Care.

The Bastard.

Aaaaack!

And yet here you are! Damn. PLEASE get well before W trashes the VA completely. I'm otherwise speechless trying to convey my thoughts. I reckon it's the outrage.....

What it makes

What it makes me want to do when I read articles like this scares me. But, unlike the ones my wrath is visited upon I control the impulses.

How can men be so callous, so hypocritical, so inhumane, so soulless? By what messure? How do such people get into postions of such power as to be able to do such things and not be held accountable?

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.

Random term

Fascism. In UseNet discussions (and indeed, most discussions) the use of the F-word signals the end of useful discussion, via the operations of Godwin's Law. Unfortunately, this prevents the F-word from being used analytically. Orcinus sometimes uses the similar but more neutral term corporatist.
