Obama set to woo nation with historic speech
AP - Barack Obama stands before delegates and the nation Thursday — the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic "I Have a Dream" speech — to accept the Democratic presidential nomination, the first black man to claim such a prize.
After having roughhoused the first woman who had a chance to claim that prize, and refused her the right to a full roll call for fear he might lose.—Caro
Bush's 2004 temple (Politico)
Barack Obama's appearance in Denver won't be the first convention speech framed by Greek columns - Republicans who are mocking Obama's appearance haven't mentioned it, but George W. Bush accepted his own nomination in 2004 on a set with a similar neoclassical theme.
Is this what Democrats want? For Obama to be compared to George Bush?—Caro
McCain to DNC attendees: go Roman (Hot off the Trail, McClatchy)
John McCain's presidential campaign issued a press release Wednesday suggesting what people should wear to Barack Obama's acceptance speech Thursday at Denver's massive Invesco Field at Mile High football stadium: togas. "Today, workers at Invesco Field are putting the final touches on the newest wonder of the modern political world - The Temple of Obama ("The Barackopolis")," the McCain release said, sticking to the campaign's strategy of trying to label Obama as elitist or "The One." "It is upon this pulpit that Barack Obama will tomorrow night adress thousands of screaming, adoring fans."
The McCain campaign is winning the humor war.—Caro

Jossip has even more dirt on MSNBC's implosion--

(and the WSJ is gonna have a big story tom'w too)
I have gotten a page load
I have gotten a page load error on this link 3 times. Anyone else getting there?
sorry---try this--
i got it from the mediabistro daily email-- try clicking from this page --

scroll to MSNBC Meltdown-- tons of links, and the link to Jossip works from there.
Does Obama-MSNBC "Prove" Liberal Bias
It now seems "common knowledge" that MSNBC is going way over the top for Obama. Given the decades long struggle by the right to say that the media has a liberal bias, does the increasing coziness of MSNBC with the Obama campaign give conservatives even more fodder? Does the "thrill up their legs" coverage of MSNBC help Obama in the long run? Does it help the GOP?

Seems like you’re ready
Seems like you're ready to throw Hillary under the bus now that she's no longer with the program. From the Pumapac blog:
Everybody has a choice.
This is a democracy, isn't it? Isn't it?
Tom Hayden predicts Obama loss--
i guess his koolaid wore off? from Mayhill Fowler, who i really like--
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mayhill-fo... --
With Hayden, it was always about the war.
He woke up from his trance when Obama changed his mind about troop withdrawal.
We coulda told him. We tried to tell all of them. Would they listen? No.
i know--i still don't
get it-- was it liberal guilt? valuing the "historic symbolism" over issues?
most of these people are smart -- and cynical about pols --why did they all fall for all the lies?
The REAL pols, ...
... the BIG ones, didn't fall for anything. They must be thinking that they can control Obama, and know that they could never control the Clintons.
It was all about them, you see, not about us silly voters.
that i know--
i meant outside ppl, like Hayden--activists and longtime fighters for issues.
very telling CA delegation report--

Caro! Where's the photo of
the phony Air Force One that's gonna be used tonight??
Personally I'm going on a lekkage-free diet tonight, staying far far from any TVs.
I'll be watching Law & Order ...
... reruns. Much more interesting.
Hey, nostalgia!
All that "law" stuff. Rule of law -- remember when?

Yes, once upon a time ...
... seems like thousands of years ago.
Less Obama. More D'onofrio.
I love me some L&O:CI, especially the Goren/Eames episodes, but this last season of "USA" originals has been a little lacking in thick, juicy, psychological stuff, IMHO, which is what makes CI what it is. That end of it feels thinner. And many of the criminal plots (competition for private school admissions, e.g.) are directly lifted from classic NBC episodes.
This season which just ended, the most interesting stuff was when we got into the heads of the principals, and their relationships (like when Eames discovered Goren was deep undercover while away, and castigated him for showboating while she worked her ass off. Great stuff).
It's still better than no D'Onofrio at all.
While i'm a big fan of Vince D'O
the writing on L&O:CI has been pretty atrocious for a long time -- its simply not believable that he figures stuff out the way he does; there is no logic, other than the logic of plot resolution in the last five minutes, in psychological insights.
Goren is simply not a character who works in episodic television -- the end of last season/beginning of this season story arc was worthwhile, but the rest of the season sucked.
Give me my SVU any day -- Meloni and Hargitay will go down in history as a classic team, and the supporting cast (most especially the female characters) are the most consistently well-drawn, complex secondary characters on TV today.

ugh-- again.
explained?
any "analysis" that uses the phrase "visionary minimalist" to describe someone has to be considered incoherent (but at least we know where Obama learned to sound smart without saying anything meaningful now!)
*********
MLK's speech -- if MLK was a visionary minimalist...
I have a dream. Actually, I'm not sure if I was really asleep, maybe it was just my mind wandering. But anyway, I saw this town illuminated with a 25 watt bulb on this hill. It wasn't anything special though.
“visionary minimalist”
I guess that means there's no money for anybody except those who already have lots of it?

Amen to that, and disappointment with the CI plots BUT...
when discussions of L&O the various incarnations come up, one point that's made over and over is how much they employ older (read: no longer hot) (to people who don't know from hot, but...) actresses.
For this alone they earn my allegiance.
