To be fair
Rumsfeld did serve as a fighter pilot in the mid 1950s, and stayed active in the reserves until the late 80s. Doesn't make him any less of an asshole, but at least he didn't slink off like the other two.
Why would you want to be
Why would you want to be fair to people like this? We have spent more than a generation since Vietnam with people who opposed the war and the press being blamed for losing that war instead of the people who were in charge of that war.
Similarly, we are being told now that opposing Iraq is undermining that war effort rather than that it's a bad policy which is being carried out incompetently.
