Grassley crusades against conflict interest in academic medicine -- but not on the Senate Finance Committee!
I wonder why?
Dr. Jess writes in the Des Moines Register:
Over the last several years, Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley has aggressively campaigned against conflict of interests in academic medicine. He has criticized academics at dozens of institutions across the country, including but not limited to Harvard and Stanford universities. His primary targets are government-funded researchers who had undisclosed or inadequately disclosed ties to the pharmaceutical industry. The concern as detailed by Grassley in a letter to the chancellor of the University of Texas system is that "funding from pharmaceutical companies can influence scientific studies, continuing medical education, and the prescribing patterns of doctors." Beyond disclosure of this conflict, Grassley demands an explanation of how "the interest has been managed, reduced, or eliminated."
Alrighty then. That seems fair!

Noam Levey of the LA Times serves up AHIP Kool Aide
Levey, for reasons best known to himself, puts out this remarkably tone deaf report on the healthcare debate. I say this because in addition to the usual fear mongering, there are no quotes from any single payer advocate. Fourteen of the 93 cosponsors of HR 676 are from California, and that does not count newly elected single payer advocate Jackie Speier. Moreover, single payer legislation has passed the California legislature twice, only to be vetoed by the Gropenator.
WaPo's Ceci Connolly plays Baghdad Bob to America’s health neglect system
Ceci Connolly has an article entitled, U.S. 'Not Getting What We Pay For': Many Experts Say Health-Care System Inefficient, Wasteful, where she quotes, without irony, all the parasites of our health neglect system.
First a few words about Ceci Connolly; if you read The Daily Howler, you know that more than any other member of the celebrity press corps, she is responsible for smearing Al Gore and giving us Bush. An example of her notion of humor:
