Obama responding to the latest Israeli/Palestinian crisis at a press conference in Thailand on 11/18/12 at the start of a three-nation tour in Asia:
"Let's understand what the precipitating event here that's causing the current crisis and that was an ever-escalating number of missiles that were landing not just in Israeli territory but in areas that are populated, and there's no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders.”
Obama actually said "There's no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders.”

Paul Craig Roberts recently suggested an archly apt bumper sticker: “Be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.”
Our government does not bring democracy to countries. Raise your hand if you are naive enough to believe it does. Especially after the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were launched (still ongoing). Those two countries are two of the five most corrupt countries in the world thanks to our craven "involvement" -- involvement a profoundly understating word. Read below the fold...

The result is that in this democratic nation, presidents behave like dictators, doing whatever they like, and an uninformed citizenry is in no position to stop them. If our newspapers are nothing more than propaganda sheets, there is little reason to pay attention to them beyond predicting when they will allow a president to begin carrying out bad deeds.

It sounds nice, doesn’t it?
Just don’t try to exercise said freedom. That can come with serious helpings of intimidation and punishment. Pepper spraying, clubbing, incarceration.
Actually, thanks to our United States Senate this week -- with a stunning bipartisan vote of 93 to 7 -- you now can get efficiently and LEGALLY “disappeared” for exercising your HERETOFORE constitutional freedoms. Free speech. Assembly, etc.
Meanwhile, the REAL terrorists continue to get plenty of mileage out of the faux-War on Terror. It comes in handy for removing the rights and securities of any citizenry, even ours. Read below the fold...

I have too readily embraced the notion, as I did with the Bushco regime, that this country is being led by macho, narcissistic, addicted-to-power, patriarchal nincompoops unwittingly generating massive chaos and destruction.
The macho, narcissistic, addicted-to-power, patriarchal part is right. And there are nincompoops and sycophant, amoral cronies enabling their asses off at the upper levels of power. But I and the rest of us should at all times apply the savvy Naomi Klein’s “shock and awe” theory to the continuing, seemingly unsuccessful nightmares resulting in global U.S. military policies. We need to exit the fog of spiritual and intellectual confusion to rally against bottom-line and insane evil. Read below the fold...
