The former Democratic senator from South Dakota urged today that Americans join in community discussions in the last two weeks of December to develop ideas for new national policies that will reduce health costs, boost the quality of care and get everyone coverage. The events are being organized through the transition team’s Web site, change.gov.
“In order for us to reform our health-care system, we must first begin reforming how government communicates with the American people,” Obama said in an e-mailed statement after Daschle’s speech. “I encourage Americans to take part if they are able.”
Gee, "if you're able," take part in this great new democratic experiment which just happens to disenfranchise the very people Obama threw under the bus in the primaries when they couldn't make it to the caucuses:
The poor, the old, the sick, and those who work long hours. All of these people are far less likely to log onto the Internet and share their thoughts.
And oddly, or not, those are the very people who need single payer the most -- and yet will only have influence over the outcomes "if they're able," assuming change.gov isn't a digital Potemkin Village
, of course.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la meme chose...
NOTE There's another lovely statement by Daschle in the story:
“That’s what makes this so urgent and so much a part of the economic recovery process,” Daschle said. “I believe that for the first time in American history, health-care reform will be done.”
"First time"? Oh, Medicare wasn't "health care reform"? WTF
?

all of a piece with the emails i get from team obama
which very subtly urge me to trust obama's [yet-to-be-revealed] vision on all things, even as they ask me for my input. hasn't stopped me from telling what i think of their "reform" and what we really need to do, but i can see why so many other people are lulled into not making real demands, the emails sent out by team obama are very well-crafted.
silly lambert, real health care reform won't happen until all of us little people, not just the poorest ones, stop going to the doctor, hospital, etc so often. we need to leave these precious and limited resources to just the richest among us.
There is no history, there is only now, and Now is Obama.
On some report last night, it was mentioned that the Obama campaign raised more money than the DNC and RNC combined, which the reporter said makes Obama into a party of his own.
Gee, you were prescient about that as well, Lambert.
I have solved healthcare, energy, and the polar bear problems
Here's what we do...
All the useless mouths (you know who you are) get squeezed. Literally. Now no need to waste doctors and medicine and stuff on us when we're all squashified.
The oil can run cars. How many miles does your car get to the grandma?
What's leftover can be composted and used on organic farms to feed the Beautiful and Useful. And with all of us useless people out of the way, no more breaking up ice floes to float grandma on. Result? Smiling polar bears.
See? The solutions are easy if you're willing to do what is necessary. And you have a squasher.
Do I get my genius grant now?
What about the Soylent Green? There's need for protein as well.
Hey, Soylent Green is a solution, right?
Yes on soylent green but renamed or they might catch on
Now I'm not a scientist, but since soylent green isn't a liquid, it can't be the solution. And as we all know, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
Good thing we got that all cleared up.
does anyone else remember...
when Obama had a health care plan? And that it was so good that it was much, much better than Hillary's plan?
'cause I could swear he used to have one -- but apparently he doesn't now, because he wants my input on it.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la meme chose..
Ok, that was brilliant.
OTOH, VastLeft is right...
... that if we can't report on this, we can lose our leadership on Health Care -- where, thanks primarily to DCBlogger, we are the goto blog.
I don't want to go through this alone -- but I'll sign up for a house party if somebody else will; I'll bring out a copy of the HR 676 FAQ from Conyers...
"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mahatma Gandhi
Oooh! Virtual house party! At the Mighty Corrente Building!
Way cool!
And we can send in all our posts on HR 676 and Universal Health Care....
Like they'll be read....
So, are you signing up?
You have to, like, go to the physical house party. Thems the rulez.
"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mahatma Gandhi
how do i find one of these house parties?
i'd consider doing this.
house parties
http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/c...
I'd consider going to one of these
as well, but the majority of the ones I'm finding seem more like pep rallies than policy discussions. Examples include a "Yes We Can and Yes We Did!" party with a focus on sharing photos and stories from the campaign trail. Are you finding more serious options in your neck of the woods?
If other people are planning on doing this and if I can find one that is not full and seems to be more than a celebration of The One, I will find a way to keep my skepticism in check and go share my
fantasieshopes for the new administration. (I know, those are a lot of qualifiers.)Do they really want to hear from us?
I doubt it. Team Obama must have their health plan totally thought out and just want to humor the little people who will sadly believe they'll have some influence over how things are done by online communication. I mean, to think that the team behind MI and FL actually gives a damn about the voice of the people is just hilarious. But many people will believe it. Just as they believed Obama "voted against" AUMF and other, ahem, fairy tales.
