Obama would like to appoint Republicans Chuck Hagel and Dick Lugar to key cabinet positions, like Secretaries of Defense and State, if elected.
So what, precisely, would change under a President Obama?

The difference is....
that now we would have the hope of change, whereas before we didn’t.
Also, where before we didn’t have Unity
with the Republicans, now we would.
See?

Silly Girl!
You shouldn’t worry your pretty little head with such big questions!
Obama will bring people together to change the way things are done in Washington.
Feel better now?
/end snark
a lot
obama’s not bush. even if you don’t like him, it will be better having a democrat in the white house than a republican. that’s a huge change.
plus, he would talk to iran and cuba, finally breaking with two foreign policies that have failed us for the past 3 and 5 decades. that is a major change, one i’ve been advocating for years.
Actually...
… Obama isn’t into torturing animals, unlike the Republicans. So, as upyernoz points out, there is a difference.
That said, we shouldn’t decieve ourselves about the nature or the degree of the “change” Mr. Hopey is offering, as universal health care slides off the big table, for example.

Such a track record!
Secretary of State is the head foreign policy position in the executive branch.
And the last 8 years have shown us how good a job Republicans do at foreign policy.
These same guys enabled Dubya’s (not so) excellent imperial adventure, and Sen Obama would like to give them responsibility for foreign policy?
bswtf, over?
Waiter! Can I have a new nominee, please? This one is too fucking stupid.
Well, let's be reasonable, here
This is all foreign policy stuff, and Obama did hold a number of very effective hearings in his capacity as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee… Oh, wait….

Now is the time to bring this up
I am hoping that by bringing it up now I might play a tiny role in shooting down this trial balloon, should Obama prevail.
If Obama is serious about this, I hope we will give Chuck Hagel the confirmation hearing from hell.
my pony
hey this isn’t the pony I signed up for…
ponies!
ponies!
The answer is
We get another Republican Senator from Indiana. That’s it. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Zero.
