We've all heard what happened to Dr. George Tiller and the clinic he operated. Now there's been another shooting, this time in DC. There's been another murder, this time of a black man working as a security guard. 
I really do not know what more to say about the murder of a Holocaust Museum guard today, except that the shooter is in custody.
Please take a moment to remember Stephen Tyrone Johns.

CNN says:
The museum released a statement saying Johns died "heroically in the line of duty.""There are no words to express our grief and shock over these events. He served on the Museum's security staff for six years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Johns' family," the statement said. "We have made the decision to close the Museum tomorrow in honor of Officer Johns, and our flags will be flown at half mast in his memory."
Perhaps news of the museum's plan to premiere a play about Anne Frank and Emmett Till, written by one of these authors, set this white supremacist off?
The DHS report warning [warning:PDF at link] of an uptick in right-wing terror here at home is proving more and more prescient as the days go by.

there's a not-so-subtle campaign against the elderly going on as well. Might as well lump them in!

the guys (mostly) who guard federal buildings are former law enforcement, former military, putting their skills to use. I often stop (while biking around) to chat with them about their work.
Every time a car slows down near the curb, or lingers, the guards jump to attention. A reminder that there's a war on. I am warming up to the idea that tools like PATRIOT ACT should be used for all comers. Everyone should have some "skin in the game."

Scott Rodeder had even superglued the locks of Dr. Tiller's clinic the day before he shot the doctor, the FBI was notifed, and nothing was done.
Imagine if some of the time, effort, and manpower that was put into the agent provocateur initiated "terror" schemes had been applied to these other home-grown terrorists? Last report I heard was that authorities had almost minute by minute recordings and video of the Newburgh Four.
On Democracy Now this morning, Amy Goodman spoke with one of the last remaining doctors who will perform late term abortions, Dr. Warren Hern of Boulder, CO.
I was stunned to learn this, but I haven't been following all the details about the man who shot the doctor, so I don't know if the MCM has been reporting this.
McClatchy gives some background on Roeder, but has nothing about his actions close to the shooting.
And now a Nebraska Doctor is planning to go to Kansas and
start performing 2nd and 3rd term abortions. Dr. LeRoy Carhart is trying to gather everything together and get it in place before he discusses the details. (via Yahoo)
