If you have "no place to go," come here!

Clinton and Obama break oaths of office, stab Dodd, FISA, the Fourth Amendment, and the Constitution in the back

Glenn:

Two other Senators at least -- Feingold and Kennedy -- have committed to being on the floor to enable Dodd to take periodic breaks by asking questions. Despite issuing prior statements claiming they would support Dodd's filibuster, none of the other presidential candidates in the Senate -- Clinton, Obama or Biden -- have indicated that they will do so tomorrow.

Boy, do Hillary and Obama both suck. What a surprise! Just to refresh your memories.

Hillary:

Q: Can you discuss your position on the reauthorization of the FISA bill?

HRC: I am troubled by the concerns that have been raised by the recent legislation reported out of the Intelligence Committee. I haven't seen it so I can't express an opinion about it. But I don't trust the Bush Administration with our civil rights and liberties. So I'm going to study it very hard. As matters stand now, I could not support it and I would support a filibuster absent additional information coming forward that would convince me differently.

I guess what she must have meant is that she would support the Constituion from far away? Or maybe she "studied it very hard" and decided she was all for it, but didn't tell anyone?

Obama:

"Senator Obama has serious concerns about many provisions in this bill, especially the provision on giving retroactive immunity to the telephone companies. He is hopeful that this bill can be improved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. But if the bill comes to the Senate floor in its current form, he would support a filibuster of it."

I guess Obama, too, is offering his support from very far away?

Of course, Hillary and Obama are running for President, so perhaps its a little much to ask them to fulfill their Senatorial oaths:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Yeah, well. Constitution? Nice knowing you.

NOTE I thought Hillary would suck, since she has no plan to restore Constitutional government, but I didn't think Obama would suck. I guess he plans to unite the country on the basis of his personal charisma and leadership qualities, rather than on qualities like keeping his oath, or on the Constitution.

TROLL PROPHYLACTIC I will vote for either Hillary or Obama in the general, and will even give them money and volunteer. Yes, if they don't deliver on this basic, basic issue, they suck. But it's one thing to suck, and it's another thing to--like the Republicans--be possessed of suckitude so massive that even the pus-encrusted spawn of Chtulhu turn away in horror. Eh?

UPDATE For all you G&S fans out there, the "leadership" that Clinton and Obama are showing us on this issue reminds me very much of the Duke of Plaza Toro, on The Gondoliers:

n enterprise of martial kind,
When there was any fighting,
He led his regiment from behind
(He found it less exciting).
But when away his regiment ran,
His place was at the fore, O-
That celebrated,
Cultivated,
Underrated
Nobleman,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!
In the first and foremost flight, ha, ha!
You always found that knight, ha, ha!
That celebrated,
Cultivated,
Underrated
Nobleman,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

When, to evade Destruction's hand,
To hide they all proceeded,
No soldier in that gallant band
Hid half as well as he did.
He lay concealed throughout the war,
And so preserved his gore, O!
That unaffected,
Undetected,
Well connected
Warrior,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!
In every doughty deed, ha, ha!
He always took the lead, ha, ha!
That unaffected,
Undetected,
Well connected
Warrior,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

When told that they would all be shot
Unless they left the service,
That hero hesitated not,
So marvellous his nerve is.
He sent his resignation in,
The first of all his corps, O!
That very knowing,
Overflowing,
Easy-going
Paladin,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!
To men of grosser clay, ha, ha!
He always showed the way, ha, ha!
That very knowing,
Overflowing,
Easy-going
Paladin,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

This is truly, truly sad. How often have we seen these democrats fail to do the single most important thing: to honor the oath they swore? Pelosi, Reid.... it's sickening. It's not a big shock that Hillary, who is so much a whore of the corporations that she might as well be a Republican, would weasel out of doing her duty. But for Barack to betray his oath, and his word, is heartbreaking.

Because I would truly love to see some exploding heads among the Clinton & Obama supporters, especially the latter, who bear a strong resemblance to Mr. Magoo because of the severe myopia.

I'm going to recommend that Chris Dodd read Barbara Jordan's speech to the House Judiciary Committee.
