If you have "no place to go," come here!

Insufferable Hype & Egotism: BOTH Lincoln’s & MLK’s Bibles?

I know what Lincoln and MLK will be doing on Obama’s inauguration day.

Rolling over in their graves.

I’ll once again be fighting the urge to vomit.

Obama’s cynicism, hypocrisy and egotism really are insufferable. One bible isn’t enough for the “wonder boy” -- and he is a boy in all his arrested emotional development.

He has to have both Lincoln’s and MLK’s bibles?

Methinks thou art selling thyself too pathetically and shamelessly hard, Barack!

I am choosing to avoid seeing that smile of “duper’s delight” as Obama pulls off his latest impression management razzle dazzle inauguration day.

Also insufferable, the propagandizing of his cabal of operatives and the MSNBC crowd of sycophants encouraging very successfully so many citizens to deepen their “team Dem/America exceptionalism” addiction and continue to ignore a reality becoming more and more persistent and painful.

Last year’s “lesser evilism” is the new “heroism”? Pullleeeeze!

Remember Gore Vidal’s labeling of this country as “the United States of Amnesia”?

Can I mention here that our government, and the oligarchical ruling class elite that it is pimped out to, are exceptionally violent and oppressive. Evil.

It is hard for a human being to fully grasp large-scale and threatening evil. Short-term denial is preferable and easier. As is going after the messengers of truth and reality. Especially when Obama is so shameless and opportunistic a self-promoter and liar, helped mightily by corporate financial sponsorship and its media’s 24/7 propaganda.

The American Judas, the pied piping Democratic president on the garden path to fascism, will place his not-so-lesser-evil hand on BOTH Lincoln’s and MLK’s bibles to take another supposedly sacred oath to protect and guide us.

God help us all.

Martin Luther King’s utterances during his lifetime were powerful. One that resonates with me this day: “... for the sake of hundreds of thousands trembling under our violence, I cannot be silent ...”

Thank God he wasn’t silent. We need more Americans not to be silent about evil and its bullshit and its horrors.

Obama, a purveyor of great violence. A purveyor of great poverty. A disdainer of the plight of the poor, the sick, the elderly ... pretty much anyone not a one-percenter.

Obama is a bigger militarist than George W. Bush.

He ignores constitutional law.

He commits and directs crimes against humanity, such as murder of Americans. Mass murder of non-Americans.

He allies with oppressive nations and enables their crimes against humanity.

He targets dissenters.

He enables the theft and fraud and obscene profiteering of the corporate elite at the expense of American citizens and foreign peoples, dooming them to poverty, hunger, sickness, ongoing unemployment, death, etc.

He is about to slash further America’s social safety net, including social security, Medicare and Medicaid. Duped and enthralled citizens will proclaim he is doing his best to save such programs. He will agree and boast of it. He will lie and do harm.

Our government is run by a criminal class. Democratic and Republican.

After Obama was elected in 2008 I observed that not only was Obama beginning to lose balance on the slippery slope of fascism, he apparently had brought his sled.

Amazing and heart-breaking how many citizens still don’t get it.

Lincoln, MLK .... and Obama? What colossal hubris.

The audacity of mendacity!

And then Michelle could show off those wonderfully toned upper arms all the more, part of the Obama glam brand, holding the THREE bibles! But, of course, FDR and that New Deal stuff that Obama knows he has four years to finish dismantling. Still, he defiled Lincoln and MLK's with his hypocrisy, why not FDR?

I have been watching the NewsHour and the sycophants spouting such respectful piffle and Obama has captured mainstream media totally. I knew that, but watching the tv on Inauguration Day is particularly vomit-inducing and alarming.

Meanwhile more quagmires in Africa. And whistleblowers suiciding or doomed to long term detentions and assassination. Obama, super frontman for oligarchs. The bubble people are defiantly em-bubbled.

No disrespect to Lincoln and King, who truly were great leaders, but bibles are so passé. Like 3000 years passé. Nobody believes that stuff anymore. Well, no one who's opinion should be trusted.

How did The Obama's handlers miss the opportunity to show His Hideous Highness as a 21st century (wired up, hip) kind of Highness: he could have laid his two hands on two tablets -- an iPad for MLK and a Samsung for Lincoln (just to avoid the appearance of shilling for one technology company over another.)

Although when I saw your question, I thought about "A tentacle of Cthulhu"....

Tradition matters to people. Shameless Obama uses that. Symbolism can comfort people as Obama does all the anti-Christlike violence he wants after exploiting MLK's and Lincoln's bibles, etc., assured that his shamelessly hypocritical rhetoric and sound bites will offer him cover. Blame Obama and blame a pathetic nation of non-critical, media hypnotized citizens. best, libby

“The Thing cannot be described - there is no language for such abysms of shrieking and immemorial lunacy, such eldritch contradictions of all matter, force, and cosmic order. A mountain walked or stumbled.

If I say that my somewhat extravagant imagination yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature, I shall not be unfaithful to the spirit of the thing. A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings; but it was the general outline of the whole which made it most shockingly frightful.”

Terrible writing. And yet it survives!

Whoa -- frightful writing is right. It survives and applies. President Cthulhu -- has a certain ring to it.

(Wasn't there a similar creature in 1000 Leagues Under the Sea?)

Nice to hear from you, Hugh. Hard to express the bitterness one feels. It is dazzling the levels of denial and minimization in this country. What number are we up to of Obama scandals???? Bush put the constitution in the trash and Obama has left it there but that apparently is not a crime in people's eyes and it erases even the horror people had sustained at Bush, even. I call it learned helplessness still and the Stockholm Syndrome on Steroids.

Alcuin, you notice that mainstream media ONLY talks about the enemies of Obama on the RIGHT. They willfully avoid ever acknowledging there is even one of us in existence on the left who are OUTRAGED at Obama and calling him out on his moral bankruptcy and downright criminal behaviors. It demoralizes those of us with conscience, marginalizes and disenfranchises us -- is crazymaking -- by trying to hypnotize us that we are such a teeny minority when we are not, we are just not mirrored AT ALL in craven mainstream media.

Also, the more monstrousness perpetrated by unidentified sociopaths or psychopaths the more invested people become in protecting themselves from the horrifying reality that messengers are threatening them with, and the more dedicated they become to protecting the DELUSION that good exists where actually only evil dwells.

I googled Dubord at wikipedia:

"Debord (sic) was deeply distressed by the hegemony of governments and media over everyday life through mass production and consumption. He criticized both the capitalism of the West and the dictatorial communism of the Eastern bloc for the lack of autonomy allowed to individuals in both governmental structures. Debord (sic) postulated that Alienation had gained a new relevance through the invasive forces of the 'spectacle' - "a social relation between people that is mediated by images" consisting of mass media, advertisement and popular culture. The spectacle is a self-fulfilling control mechanism for society. Debord's (sic) analysis developed the notions of "reification" and "fetishism of the commodity" pioneered by Karl Marx and Georg Lukács. Semiotics was also a major influence, particularly the work of his contemporary, Roland Barthes, who actually coined the term, "the society of the spectacle", which Debord appropriated as the title for his most celebrated book. Debord's (sic) analysis of "the spectaclist society" probed the historical, economic and psychological roots of the media and popular culture. Central to this school of thought was the claim that alienation is more than an emotive description or an aspect of individual psychology: rather, it is a consequence of the mercantile form of social organization which has reached its climax in capitalism, as theorized by Herbert Marcuse of the Frankfurt School."

Left? What left? There's a Left in this country? I did ask one Black co-worker about his take of Obama's use of MLK, Jr.'s Bible and he said that he was O.K. with it. He said it was "symbolic" and that the actual swearing-in took place using his mother-in-law's Bible. Don't know - don't have a TV and don't really care. I'm done with Obama - I expect this kind of thing from him and his kind. I don't waste my energy fulminating against him any longer. I'd rather read John Holloway.

... to edit comments and then it closes (5 mins IIRC).

At some point, to save circulation, so as not to follow Violet, I may have to think about opening the comments section, and this is a solution for problems that can happen with that.

That really is it.

Adding, I know what the Obama fans' response would be, but it's always their response.
