Condi "considers," then "decides" to obey the law

Mighty big of her. Condi can come over and play my piano anytime. Warren Strobel and Jonathon Landay of McClatchy share more proof that we're winning:

A State Department report on terrorism due out next week will show a more than 25 percent increase in terror attacks worldwide in 2006 to over 14,000 - almost all of it due to incidents in Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. officials said Friday.

(You can just imagine how had it would be if The God Of Bush's Choice Wasn't Personally intervening to hold down the numbers.)

But Strobel and Landay bury the lead. Here it is:

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her top aides had considered postponing or downplaying the release of this year's edition, due to the extreme political sensitivities, several officials said. But ultimately, they decided to issue the report on or about the congressionally mandated deadline of Tuesday, the officials said.

Take a minute to wrap your mind around that statement, because what it says is that, ultimately, they "decided" to obey the law.

Since when is obeying the law optional?

That's the modus operandi at the Bush administration. Obeying the law is just another political calculation. Unbelievable? All too believable.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
