The Supreme Court ruling that a woman has a right to privacy in medical decisions remains under attack. In addition some of the opponents of women's rights (the right not to be forced to carry a pregnancy to term is a uniquely feminine issue) are also attacking new Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, the Court itself, and President Obama (PDFs at Link).

a Republican (what else?) representing Iowa's 5th District. Upon his first campaign for the seat, King had this to say:
"This seat will be used to move the political center of gravity in Congress to the right," King told cheering delegates, after narrowly defeating House Speaker Brent Siegrist of Council Bluffs, 272 to 253, on the third ballot. Iowa Sen. John Redwine of Sioux City and Council Bluffs businessman Jeff Ballenger were the first and second to fall in balloting.
Paul Shomshor is the Democratic nominee and welcomed King to the race.
"What the vote (Saturday) demonstrates is that it is clearly a divided party that has chosen a candidate," Shomshor said. "I think that I will represent mainstream Iowa. They may have selected a candidate from the geographic center of the district but I am from the political center."
King, however, is the favorite in the race because the 32-county district has 55,000 more Republicans than Democrats.
King vowed to go after every county and visit every one of the 286 cities in the district.
"Western Iowa is the key to statewide victories," he said. "The future of Iowa is in our hands."
Bill Salier, the Nora Springs farmer who ran against Ganske in the primary, introduced King.
"The culture war continues," Salier said. "It means every single day, every single one of us must pursue the agenda of the Republican Party."
King said he will not compromise his values.
"It's not about compromise if you want to get something done for Republicans," he said. "It's about negotiating from a position of strength."
The online version of the petition is accompanied by snail-mail copies being sent to folks in Kansas like Kos commenter forever blue.
Language in the petition suggests that this is indeed aimed at invoking a flaw in the 1973 USSC decision, in which the Court said it could not determine the point of origin of life. (Note: errors in the petition shown below appear in the original.)

CITIZEN PETITION TO REVERSE ROE V. WADE .........
WHEREAS: Because of Roe v. Wade, millions of unborn children have
died through abortion; and

The Undersigned
Has anybody else received this via email or snail-mail? King -- who also opposes health care reform -- appears to be one of the more odiously outspoken Bushites left in Congress, an admirer of McCarthy and an opponent of the $52 billion in Katrina relief that President Bush signed.
Kansas' Senator Sam Brownback might be a sympathetic recipient of these petitions. I know not how Tiahrt and Roberts, the others forever blue mentions, might react. I do know the prolifealliance group proudly proclaims its distrust of Harry Reid, and counts among its friends Arizona's John Boozman.
Years of fighting to turn women back into chattel have not discouraged the prolifealliance:
Fight to Overturn Roe v. Wade Heats Up in House
Those continued efforts have led to ever-increasing support for a Life at Conception Act in Congress. In the 111th Session of Congress, Pro-life Members of Congress introduced three almost identical Life at Conception Acts – two in the House of Representatives and one in the U.S. Senate.
The lobbying of National Pro-Life Alliance members led to the Life at Conception Act being introduced with the highest number of cosponsors, ever. And NPLA members will continue to hold the politicians accountable, pushing for an up or down vote on a Life at Conception Act.
In the U.S. Senate, pro-life floor leader Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) has introduced the Life at Conception Act, S.3346, in this session of Congress.
Behind the Life at Conception Act bills in the House are Congressman Duncan D. Hunter (R-CA) and Congressman Paul Broun (R-GA).
By introducing H.R.881, Congressman Duncan D. Hunter, the son of former Life at Conception Act sponsor Duncan L. Hunter, is following in his father’s footsteps.
Hunter won election this past fall to serve as the Representative of the 52nd Congressional District of California, the post held by his father prior to his retirement after the last session of Congress.
Congressman Paul Broun, the author of H.R.227, is a former medical doctor who entered into the political arena in 2007.
Congressman Broun has since sought to use his medical expertise to legally establish the scientific fact that conception marks the creation of a genetically unique human being, who should be guaranteed Constitutional protection, under the 14th Amendment.
An up or down vote on a Life at Conception Act will put politicians on record either for or against ending abortion-on-demand.
Can anyone else report how widespread this campaign is?
