I'm blogging as fast as I can

AltHippo is scandalized that Corrente hasn't posted in praise of AG nominee Eric Holder.

The fact is, I'd seen a few quotes from Holder that gave me pause, but after reading Glenn Greenwald's considered look at the pros and cons (including the concerning quotes), he sounds like a promising pick.

Glenn has been a champ about 4th Amendment issues, so his recommendation goes a long way with me. No one, not even Glenn, has my proxy forever and ever, but I look forward to seeing what Holder can and will do.

I'm not sure, though, that I should get my hopes up that there will be a truth and reconciliation commission that will reveal, punish, and give future administrations fear o' God about ever repeating the crimes of the Bush administration. If AG Holder is to be the bastion of progressivism that AH thinks he is, that should be forthcoming, no?

Now, will it? Color me skeptical, given the tenor of Obama's post-partisan songbook. But a man can hope, can't he?

And for simple answers to simple questions:

Q. "Is [Correntewire's] aim as a blog to discuss why they hate Obama for the next 4 years?"

A. No. And no.

it's Good to Be Hated. and my take on Holder

i mean that seriously; if they hate you, they're paying attention to you, and may/likely even *fear* you. that's Good, from my perspective.

and on Holder: i had it out today with some folks about him, and here's what i don't like: his focus, during the Clinton years, to "crack down" on pot users.

wft? that's "liberal?" i don't think so. i suppose i can understand the logic of "cracking down" on coke dealers and meth abuse. but pot? that's soooo "not liberal." anyone willing to milk that gravy train of police state hysteria is suspect to me. i'm glad he (apparently) got off the pot hater's bandwagon in 96, but i'm still not confident he's a true Liberal and can be counted upon to do the right thing.

and who is this Hippo person?

it's funny. all of our more recent detractors are people from blogs i've never read nor heard of. i guess i'm limited or something, but seems like for all they won't link to us (excepting some, go Chris) few A Listers are joining that bandwagon in public.

This is why I keep running...

those "prematurely correct" posts. So far -- and I grant that it's very early days, and that FDR was not FDR before he was FDR -- we have far more called our shot than others. And did anyone else notice how fast that idea that "we've got to frame Obama's run as progressive so that we can bring pressure to bear on him to be progressive" died the death?

As to our mission: Our mission is ponies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't everyone's LOL?

Holder's position on the war on drugs

was the first thing that TL noticed, too.

Why does TL hate Obama?

As long as they spell our name right...

I mean, honestly. Don't they have the abilities to originate content of their own? Because you'd think the easiest way forward for them would be to build Obama up instead of tearing others down.

dingdingding! i think you're onto something, my friend. let's all explore that more, shall we? as in, what are they hiding/avoiding/covering up? picking on little people is always the easy option/distraction of those with something to hide.

Here's the take at Shakesville

Here's a quote:

"At the beginning of the 21st century, this nation faces problems that are old and that are new: racial, sexual orientation, and gender inequality all remain. … The solutions are contained within a new, dynamic, progressive movement that has the ability to inspire and motivate the people of this nation in the way that progressives have in the past.

He may not be great on everything, but he seems like a progressive fighter, which is better than the future resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

He who will not reason is a bigot; he who cannot is a fool; and he who dares not is a slave.
- Sir William Drummond

"Progressive fighter"?

Oh, so Obama's come on in favor of single payer and rescuing homeowners? I guess I didn't get the memo....

Aeryl's picture

Where did you read that

I said Holder is a progressive fighter. And I put the emphasis on fighter, vs progressive.

He who will not reason is a bigot; he who cannot is a fool; and he who dares not is a slave.

Oopsie...

I guess I'm more obsessed than I thought! (Or my response was off point because I'm trying to do too damn much at once.

On Holder

I really don't know much about him, an up until hearing just above his support for the "War on Drugs" the worst thing I'd heard about him was critique from the right about his involvement in the Mark Rich pardoning. I guess until I hear more, he sounds rather mediocre.

On a different note, I've already heard some of the OFB conceding that "change" has become "reality." You know, for being so incredibly bright and brilliant, they are awfully unperceptive and months behind everyone else.

But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...

You know, I love Glenn dearly, but . . .

Glenn Greenwald's considered look at the pros and cons

I couldn't make it past the first few paragraphs without my eyes glazing over. If there's anything more mind-numbingly boring than one lawyer gushing over another, I've yet to encounter it.

vastleft's picture

There's nothing boring to me about the potential to

restore the rule of law in this country.

OTOH, it's pretty boring in Guantánamo, year after year without a trial, I hear.

amberglow's picture

but if they set up another separate trial system

here instead of our regular one--bringing them here, but still keeping them out of our legal system, there's no protections for them or any better outcome, is there?

Realist's picture

Sorry, but the whole "potential" deal is even more boring.

Wake me up when something actually happens. Until then, it's all just talk.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
