The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Jaycee Dugard, missing for 18 years, has been found alive. A 29-year-old woman walked into the Concord Police Department earlier this week. There's a photo of 11-year-old Dugard here, and the El Dorado County SO is planning a press conference this afternoon.

The cops fucked up
From what I've read, the man had been sentenced to federal prison for 50 years for rape and kidnapping, only to be released 11 years later and put on lifetime parole (Hint: if he needs to be constantly monitored, perhaps it''s best to leave him in jail). That was 1988. Then he kidnaps this kid, who was a year older than me, three years later.*
The hell this man "avoided" detection. The cops refused to actually do an adequate search. If you see tarp and overgrown brush on the property of a convicted rapist who's facing a lifetime of parole monitoring, it's a giant red flag that he's hiding something. Especially when a neighbor alerts you to the shed and tents in the back two fucking years ago! Heads must roll for this.
And this should be labeled as a hate crime: the determining factor in selection for rape, torture, and enslavement was gender. The same would be true in the case of that Missouri boy who was held for over four years a couple years ago. This is not a "sex" crime, but a gender crime as it is motivated by bigotry with sexuality serving as the fuel and weapon of choice for this disgusting hate.
*She's been there since I was 10! I can't even imagine what that's like just to be locked away for so long. She probably doesn't even know what the Internet is. Jesus.
