There is not snark enough in the world to come up with a comment about this:
An Army dog handler convicted of abusing detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq has returned to the country with his military police unit, a military spokesman confirmed.
Sgt. Santos A. Cardona boarded a plane Monday bound for Iraq. He is assigned to the 23rd Military Police Company, said Maj. James Crabtree, a spokesman for the 18th Airborne Corps, which is headquartered at Fort Bragg.
The unit will focus on law enforcement, detainee operations and route security and to a lesser extent training Iraqi police.[snip]
Cardona fears he and his unit might be targeted by insurgents because he appears in at least one al-Qaeda propaganda video depicting the abuse at Abu Ghraib, close friends told Time magazine, which first reported Cardona's deployment at Time.com.
Cardona was convicted in May of dereliction of duty and aggravated assault for allowing his dog to bark within inches of a prisoner's face.
Cynicism fails me. They say that you really learn the meaning of the word "aghast" when you discover that there are people who intentionally hurt kittens. This is beyond that, by several light years.
