Chauncy came home yesterday, following surgery performed two days earlier to repair a torn cruciate ligament. For the next two months he will not be allowed to run or jump or play the Nutcracker at the MET.
If all goes well, after 60 days he will be able to begin taking short walks, gradually building up the length and duration of which until, within a year or so, he will hopefully be able to move about without restrictions.
Tonight Chauncy is resting on a doggie bed on the floor next to me. He wishes to thank those who sent along their kind thoughts.

Aww! Poor doggie!
That face... reminds me of when my Aussie got sick this summer. Hell hath no sadness like a puppy pained. Get well soon...
But I still believe
And I will rise up with fists!!

Life is short, pain is long,
but compassion for the good lightens the burden of the world.

Not the lampshade!
And they shaved his ass too? Ah, the indignity.
Here's to a full and speedy recovery, Mr. Chauncy.
Buena Suerte, Chauncy

Merci
Rough couple of days, but a minor miracle tonight as Chauncy finally pooped (he likes his privacy, but because his weight must be supported by me via a sling he has no choice but to let it fly with me in attendance or explode).
There are good people here. Again, thanks.

my beloved pit/chow mix blew out her ACL
way back when i was still married. oh, how i agonized that day, to hear that running and playing with the frisbee may have been the cause. after spending thousands, and feeling so bad for her as she was trapped in the house for so long, it finally healed. she was never her old self again, in terms of her jumping abilities, but she did and could run around and play.
one piece of advice that i'm sure you've already thought of: use the glucosamine/chondroiton (sp) stuff as soon as he's home. some vets poopoo it, but i saw an Incredible, Amazing difference in her after we started feeding it to her once a day. it really, really relieved her discomfort after a post-surgery day in the park.
Thanks, CD
Chauncy is taking glucosamine/chondroitin in the form of Dasuquin ...he set a personal record for a bowel movement this morning (perfect 10s for size, texture, color & overall personality)...our victories are what sustain us, our losses are what teach us.
