The Death Panel issued its verdict on the fate of the public option: too expensive to keep on life support. "We've sent out as many emails with big DONATE buttons as possible, but this public option is no longer paying its way, and so it must go," stated a key member of the Death Panel, a representative from Wall Street. "Our politicians will carry out the directive," he added.
Primary physician Conrad, Nurse Sebelius and Second Opinion Barack "there's always hope, that's very important" Obama will assist progressives with end-of-life counseling for the public option.
They advise five stages:
Denial: Barack Obama strongly supports a robust public option! He said so!
Anger: It's not fair! It's those wingnuts making him do it! I went door-to-door for him! Does he have any idea how angry I am? Who can I primary?
Bargaining: Wait ... what if we include a public option but don't allow most people to enroll? How about if we postpone it until 2013? Wait, I have other good ideas ...
Depression:Publick Option, we hardly knew ye.
Acceptance: Perfect is the enemy of the good! And you know, if we click our heels, we could be Swiss!
Eventually, most progressives will make it to the final stage, where twirling batons with Big Pharma awaits them.

Hysterical!
OMG, I'm in tears this is sooo funny.
Medicare for All is Civil Rights
No. It's not funny.
It fills me with murderous rage. Getting sold out on the most pressing issue of our time is not funny, goddamnit.
Nothing is true; everything is permitted.
Yeah, but it's...
really funny. :)
Medicare for All is Civil Rights
I guess I don't see the humor.
To me, the idea that people who put a lot of faith in Obama and the Democrats are seeing their good will heinously abused is painful. I don't blame average people, or even progressives, for believing that Democrats would be the party of the working folk. FDR bought his party a lot of credit on domestic affairs.
I guess I don't enjoy laughing at the naivete of others. I was naive too, once, and I remember how it feels.
Nothing is true; everything is permitted.
Sometimes laughter is all we got.
Look, I basically live with these reforms in MA and my husband and I STILL can't afford health care. I think basic health care is a civil right. I don't even recognize this Party anymore. I always assumed if we had this kind of opportunity, we'd pass a serious domestic agenda. This thing is depressing me. If I didn't laugh...
Medicare for All is Civil Rights
I understand. But I don't want to laugh.
I want to destroy these people. I'd rather rage than laugh.
Nothing is true; everything is permitted.
Well, that's what we need...
some good old fashioned righteous anger. The American people should be marching in the streets demanding Medicare for All.
Medicare for All is Civil Rights
no worries, jumpjet
the source is rage.
mass,
you want to hear something sad? I looked up the premiums for Maryland's high-risk pool. Then, I went to the MA Connector using a Newton zip and looked up the premiums for the same age band. The premiums were comparable!
The only difference between the Connector and MD's high-risk pool is more "choice" -- but they were all bad ones!
Yeah, that's why I don't have insurance...
They keep forgetting to define "affordable" when they talk about all this affordable insurance people have the "right" to.
Medicare for All is Civil Rights
are you
getting fined?
Yes. My sister is my lawyer, though.
She's trying to get us a waiver.
Medicare for All is Civil Rights
love it
best use of death panel meme yet. just hysterical.
The Carvilles discuss the end game for health reform legislation
James--make the Repubs fiibuster and own the death of health care reform.
We all know how good Dem Senate leadership is at calling Repubs' filibusater bluffs....
Matalin--It will die, but Congressional Dems will bear the brunt of the public's anger and be voted out; Obama will skate with the public.
Both seem to see it a goner, pretty much.
Heh, but isn't that what we want?
If this bill dies, the health insurance catastrophe in this country swells further and further toward critical mass, and the states will be prodded to take the lead in reforming health care.
The bill dying might be one of our better options at this point.
Nothing is true; everything is permitted.
Value judgement
Jawbone's post didn't make a value judgement about this bills failure one way or the other, though, I'm pretty sure Jawbone would see the defeat of the anemic bill as a positive.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
