I was going through the archive when I found an article about the shift in America’s views towards the abuse of police powers. Back in 2005 when a five year old girl was cuffed and arrested because she had a temper tantrum.

How a perceptual shift in reality created the crisis we are in now. Why can’t we get debt relief?

But don’t worry about it, the police will be knocking on your door to make sure your dog is safe.

These excesses have risen dramatically

in direct proportion to the militarization of the police.
Cops today (i think) harbor a para-military sympathy. They all wanna be in the swat outfits/special forces.
Xen, i bet you (and not many others) know there are over 800 “official” home invasions EVERY WEEK by cops/swats, mostly doing pot busts.
it started in the ’80s (like most of the fascist ’reforms’ we could name) with the raygun pentagon program of selling obsolete military equipment to cities, states, and municipalities, at cut-rate prices, but gladly spent by local ’authorities.’
You’ll remember that was the era when cops were all complaining about out-gunned by the ’bad guys’ (remember Sonny and Tubbs?)

It was that high (no pun intended). But yeah I rember the 80’s arms race. We live in interesting times.
