I don't think I've ever read more ridiculous justifications than I'm reading right now about why it was a "good idea" for Obama to appoint a Republican to Sec. of Commerce, and agree to have a Democratic Gov replace him, with another Republican.
Because the massive filibuster-proof uberliberal majority Dems have in the Senate is so Huge! Or something...
I guess we have to wait for the "eats babies" moment before some people will see past the skin color = automatic liberal thang. He's not. It's not even a month, and already, he's made my job way to easy, proving so.

Could you cite some of the classic ones?

THis really needs to be a series....
For instance, did you know that the Daschle appointment was a brilliant machiavellian move by Obama because Obama wants a real progressive to run health care policy, and wants the GOP to take down Daschle so that when he's replaced by a progressive, the GOP will have no one but themselves to blame?
I've had an ongoing email conversation
with a died-in-the-wool Kucinich liberal who is making just that kind of argument, lambert. I want to bang my head against my keyboard. Any other time, he would have called this BS for what it is, but he's so enamored of our New Black President, that he is making ridiculous excuses for Obama's actions so far. Arrgh!

It's OK to make deals about who gets named to a Senate seat if
you're doing it to screw your own party? Is that the deal? That is so cool....
If the payback is personal political power, A-OK. Bipartisanship? Ooooohhhh....
gregg theories:
- he'll vote for the stimulus package
Up and just trust the preznit
- the republican appointed to replace him won't run in two years, making it easier for a dem to win the seat then
- it's part of a Grand Plan we just can't see yet
- it'll make his state more liberal
- have a nice cup of Shut the Fuck
more or less what i've read so far.
Just think:
they wouldn't have spent time and brain cells coming up with these theories if Obama had come up with a less controversial appointment than Richardson in the first place. Now Daschle's in the hot seat. The biggest joke in all this is how we were assured by Obama supporters that all his Cabinet picks were brilliant and had been thoroughly vetted.
*rolls eyes*
Oh, good grief. Another one bites the dust.

Can Daschle be far behind?
