Dem Base Blissfully Unaware of Health Whatever

Low info or no info? What's a Dem pol to do?

The Herndon Alliance and allies (the usual suspects) huddle around PowerPoints for answers.

The presentation concedes that groups typically supportive of Democratic causes — people under 40, non-college educated women, and Hispanic voters — have not been won over by the plan. Indeed, it stresses repeatedly, many are unaware that the legislation has passed, an astonishing shortcoming in the White House's all-out communications effort.

and

The presentation also concedes that the fiscal and economic arguments that were the White House's first and most aggressive sales pitch have essentially failed.

"Many don’t believe health care reform will help the economy," says one slide.

The presentation's final page of "Don'ts" counsels against claiming "the law will reduce costs and deficit."

The presentation advises, instead, sales pitches that play on personal narratives and promises to change the legislation.

Oh good, more "personal narratives." When it doesn't work the first time, double down!

Call me crazy, but I think the Dem base has been too busy with "Recovery Summer" to pay much attention to Health Whatever. Recovery Summer -- catch a wave!

I was talking to a friend of mine the other

day who is a very bright lady who supported Obama. I'm having a health issue and she was addessing how much Obama's healthcare reform would help me once it passed. She also patiently explained to me that he was advancing socialized health care and that the socialization aspect would mean that I got it for free.

She literally didn't know it had passed and she didn't know what was in it. I told her. She didn't believe me. It was weird.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
