Summers promised the administration will give a full and public accounting of how the money is used, including repayments from financial institutions that get assistance.
Too Little Accountability
“President-elect Obama believes there has been too little transparency and accountability; too much upside for financial institutions and executives who acted irresponsibly without providing enough help for small business owners, families who are struggling to keep their jobs and make ends meet, and innocent homeowners,” the letter says.
Sounds like a good idea. And if it's such a good idea, why wasn't it in the original bill, passed with the enthusiastic supprt of the Dems, including President elect Barack Obama, who worked the phones for it NOW NOW NOW NOW?
I guess accountability wasn't a good idea then because.... Well, because... Because we* trusted the Bush administration to do the right thing? Could that have been it? Or because we* decided to enable the Republicans one last time?
I mean, nobody could have predicted that Hank Paulson's golfing buddies would simply loot the Treasury.....
NOTE By "we" I mean "they," of course.

This was sent out in an email
from Barney Frank's Committee on the ninth, but it seems like the Obama people are trying to seize the momentum, or maybe they're trying to overshadow Frank:

LiveStation carries Al Jazeera English on web, along with other
news stations. Haven't tried it, but have been finding links to it around the blogs. (Was one of those blogs right here?)
Update: Meant for another thread--I really goofed on getting it here! Oops.
