Desperately Seeking Definitive Info on Edwards Primary Votes

[UPDATE: see this post for official rules and continuing thread.]

Will votes for Edwards in the primaries be counted? Will they be thrown out? Will delegates be assigned to Edwards anyway? Will votes for Edwards be reassigned to the winner?

It seems to be different from state to state but I'm having a really hard time finding a definitive answer on State Democratic Parties' websites.

I've started a thread on the John Edwards blog.

Xan posted a link to this site which seems to say that almost all States' Dem primaries will assign delegates proportionally.

Does anyone else have a link to official info or to someone who has spoken to a named party official?

Glenn Greenwaldian UPDATE: Posted this at Big Orange as well, although at a low traffic time. Some more clues but nothing definitive yet.

On my Illinois ballot

There are only delegates for Obama and Hillary. I know there were people hoping to be delegates for others but there were signature thresholds on petitions to be met. Don't know if they were onerous levels or what. I'm a precinct committeeman here and got my lists and sample ballot that way before John dropped out so I'm assuming none of his delegates made the cut where I live.

My local Dem county party Wed. night held a straw poll in a driving blizzard the night before he dropped out. 50% Obama, 21% for Hillary, 19% for John and 10% for Kucinich.

I'm afraid I don't have the definitive answer on this -- but what I remember from the convention four years ago is that Howard Dean had delegates there, and he instructed them all to vote for Kerry in the spirit of party unity. (I also remember that Kucinich, curiously, didn't release his delegates...) So, based on that, I've been assuming that Edwards would keep the delegates he's gotten so far -- and I'm hoping that he could possibly pick up a few more (I've been told that in CA at least the 15% rule is applied at the district level, so I'm thinking Edwards could have a shot at 15% here in SF -- but maybe not; I'm pretty sure Dean didn't crack 10% in any district here with his campaign already suspended). I'm not sure what, if any, effect this could have on the convention proceedings; but since I have serious misgivings about both Clinton and Obama, I'd prefer to vote to give Edwards as much power as possible at the convention, in case the nominee isn't determined beforehand.

Hey where4, check this site for an SF bay area blogger happy hour meetup if you're into that sort of thing. Or email shystee AT earthlink.net.

I've been reading a lot about the 15% thing. If it applies to the district and not state-wide that is even more motivation for me. But I still haven't seen an official statement of policy anywhere.

Thanks for asking; I

Thanks for asking; I hadn't even thought of that; I'm planning on voting for Edwards (in MA) just to make sure the other two don't take his supporters for granted...

Slate had something--

http://www.slate.com/id/2183326 -- "The bulk of them will likely shift their loyalties to the eventual nominee."

and Edwards is definitely on the NY ballot -- http://nydems.org/supertuesday.php (go there, then click on "see who will be on your ballot", and a pdf shows it for the whole state)

i think where4art has it--at Convention they'll switch to winner

like Dean's did
