it's been part of "preparedness" planning since 2005, that I know of -- BEFORE the storms hit. Since Rita, though, they've ramped it up because if the clergy are out marching on government orders they can't shelter as many people in non-government-approved locations (which lessens government's control over the population after a disaster). So it would be harder to do things like round up "evacuees" for separation from their families and shipment to places like Alaska.

That is exactly what this crackpot Dr. Tuberville is advocating, the Divine Right of Kings, with George W. Bush apparently having been crowned King.

The Martial Law threat level just went off the scale.

A possible scenario:

-Bush and Cheney launch airstrikes against Iran.
-Iran retaliates, and an attack occurs inside the United States.
-Bush, per a recent executive order, declares martial law, not just in the affected area(s), but nationwide.

So, how would Bush and Cheney (and the neo-con Republican nuts) pull this off?

-Secret domestic wiretapping programs.
-Secret data-mining databases compiled on all U.S. citizens.
-U.S. satellites being used for space-based spying on U.S. citizens on U.S. soil.
-Advances in non-lethal crowd control devices, if not outright Kent State-style crowd killings.
-Secret "detention centers," $385 million worth that are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
-Predator drone aircraft squadrons, with Hellfire missiles, scattered around our country, with one deployed at Ellington AFB outside Houston.
-The recent announcement that DHS was establishing a Stasi-like TIPS program, in which "selected" U.S. citizens would be paid to spy on other U.S. citizens.
-The neo-con push to establish a National ID system.
-The rise of neo-con-owned private security contractors, who've already been used by Bush and Cheney in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
-The suspension of habeas corpus...at Bush' and Cheney's discretion.
-The trashing of the 1878 Posse Comitas Act.
-Bush and Cheney given sole power to declare someone, anyone, an "enemy combatant."
-Crackpot religious fundamentalists bringing back "The Divine Rights of Kings," obviously referring to Bush and his so-called, self-proclaimed, self-delusional God connection.
-Certain crackpot religious fundamentalists being organized into "Clergy Response Teams" just in case Bush and Cheney declare nationwide martial law, suspend the U.S. Constitution, blow off the U.S. Congress and the judiciary, and start rounding up anyone on their "enemies list," throwing them into these secret detention centers around our nation, many of which, or so I've heard, sit empty, in remote areas.

I don't know about you, but all the "dots" seem to point to Bush and Cheney using whatever pretext necessary to declare martial law in the not too distant future.

Which means that Bush's and Cheney's crazy neo-con vision for democracy in Iraq will come home to roost in America, turning our country into what Iraq looks like today.

Hopefully, I'm wrong. But does anyone still trust these neo-con Republican nuts in the White House?

If the clergy were honestly concerned about obeying the law, then why would they work with and in support of known criminals (i.e. this administration/bushco and the justice dept. which has publicly stated that they will not enforce the law against administration officials who refuse to answer congressional subpoenas?).

So the question is this, "why is the clergy helping these criminals/these known fascists in their efforts/plans to subjugate us?

Re: Martial Law. The revised Insurrection Act (10 USC 331-335) approved by Congress and signed into law by Bush last October (prior to the election), specivically says that the president can federalize the National Guard to "suppress public disorder" in the event of "national disorder, epidemic, other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack, or INCIDENT." (emphasis mine) And, of course, with Blackwater USA now up and running, Bush doesn't even need the National Guard.

And re: Christians. As an old Christian, I would be willing to bet that the majority of Christians believe that the extreme right-wing fundamentalists are perverting, poisoning and polluting Christianity. Christians come in as many colors, beliefs and cultural backgrounds as the rest of the country. Please do not lump us all together with the extreme right wing branch. It does no one any good to do that.

The fact is that the Clergy, along with the local police and other minor community powers will do exactly what they are asked to do. They will not throw away their little priveledges to do what is right. They will do what is easy, just like in Vichy France.

We are all born free. We just don't know how free we are until someone tries to take our freedoms from us. Then we find out that the degree to which we resist is the degree to which we are free. Live free or die.

If Martial Law is ever declared, I might "marshall" the resources of scripture against it. Think the Exodus story, God vs. the pharaoh. Think Acts: where the law of God and the law of humans are in conflict, we will follow God.

I can't see how properly trained pastors would ever go along with this. We learned from Dietrich Bonhoeffer what to do what a government becomes an evil greater than the evil it proposes to portect you from.

Senator Ron Paul, stated a couple of weeks ago that the Bush Administration was planning another attack like 9/11 on the American citizens to declare martial law and further his one world agenda!
